The first thought that arises in your head when you get acquainted with the work of Bill Durgin: are these sculptures created in the spirit of hyperrealism, or images that have been worked on by a good expert in Photoshop? As strange as it may sound, both assumptions are wrong: these are real photographs showing the beauty of the forms of the human body, as well as the incredible skill of the photographer.
According to Bill Dargin, in his depictions "the physical structure becomes not just a shell, but a moving sculpture of skin, muscles and bones." To create these images, Bill Dargin invited professional dancers: their flexibility and training came in handy for the implementation of all the author's ideas. And if for the model the greatest difficulty was to take the pose required by Bill, then the main task of the photographer himself was to find the only correct angle for shooting. Judging by the end result, both the dancers and the author did their job brilliantly.
“I wanted human bodies to be recognizable, but at the same time separated from the usual perception of the figure,” says the photographer. Well, Bill got his way: it's easier to believe that some abstract sculptures are depicted in his photographs than real people.
Bill Dargin lives and works in New York. In 1995, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Tufts University in Medford, and in 2000 he received his Master of Fine Arts (California College of Art, San Francisco). You can see other photographs of Bill Dargin by visiting him page in the Internet.
