The Regal Twelve is a series of twelve portraits of women who have influenced European history. At the beginning of the project, Alexia studied in detail the life of each of her future heroines, and then went to Europe to shoot real historical places associated with a particular personality. After that, the author returned to her Australian studio, where she photographed the models. Well, then it was time to work with a computer: as if putting together an intricate puzzle, Alexia piece by piece put together hundreds of elements, adding symbols and details to each image that characterize each of the "twelve queens".
It is likely that the viewer who is not too deeply involved in history will not be aware of all the female characters presented in "The Regal Twelve". However, Alexia Sinclair claims that she chose her heroines not according to the degree of fame, but according to their role in history, according to the influence on society, according to the degree of personality brightness.
Here is what Alexia Sinclair says about her work on The Regal Twelve: “The sources of influence on my work begin in the era of Botticelli and Medici, and end with the modern culture of fashion designers such as John Galliano and Alexander McQueen. The images were inspired by the styles and fashions of each monarch, which I interpreted in a modern visual form."
Alexia Sinclair is an Australian photographer and digital artist. The Regal Twelve is her most famous and successful work, for which the author won three national awards in 2007.
