March 1 to a wonderful actor Borislav Brondukov could have turned 80 years old, but for 14 years he has not been among the living. The last 20 years of his life were very difficult, and he survived only thanks to the care of his wife. A lot of tragic events fell to the lot of one of the brightest comedy actors. The audience associated him with those characters whose images he embodied on the screens - alcoholics, crooks, losers, invariably causing the audience to laugh, while in his own life there was little reason for laughter.
Borislav Brondukov was born in 1938 in a village near Kiev. His father was Russian and his mother was Polish. She wanted to name her son Boleslav, but when registering such a name was not found on the list and the boy was recorded as Bronislav. And the name that became known to the multi-million audience - Borislav - appeared only when he began acting in films.
Brondukov did not immediately come to the acting profession. First, he graduated from a construction college and managed to work as a construction foreman and a worker at the Arsenal plant. At the same time, he was always fond of folk theater, participated in amateur performances, sang and danced. Once the rector of the Karpenko-Kary Theater Institute drew attention to his performance and invited him to submit documents to their university. But when Brondukov appeared at the institute, the members of the selection committee were ruthless to him: "". If not for the intervention of the rector, he would not have become a student of the theater university.
Since 1962, while still studying at the institute, Borislav Brondukov began acting in films. After graduation, he became an actor in the Kiev Film Studio. A. Dovzhenko. As a rule, he got episodic roles, and most directors saw him only in a comedy role. Real popularity came to him in 1975, when he starred in the comedy "Afonya". In this film, he could have got the main role, but after they decided to shoot not at the Kiev studio, but at Mosfilm, Kuravlev was approved for the role of Afoni, and Brondukov again got a cameo role. Initially, his alcoholic Fedula had only one line, but after Danelia saw the actor at the audition, he added several more scenes with his participation to the script. The actor was not worried about the fact that he was not offered the main roles. He said: "".
Director of "Afoni" Georgy Danelia said: "".
This role brought him all-Union popularity, but played a cruel joke with him: he became a hostage of this image, directors began to offer him roles of the same type, and many viewers associated the actor with his characters, thinking that he was drinking and rowdy in real life. In fact, Brondukov never had problems with alcohol, and his acquaintances said that he was neither a simpleton, nor a fool, nor a fool.
Dmitry Kharatyan, with whom they starred in the film "Green Van", said: "".
Brondukov really had a lot of trials, especially in the last 20 years of his life. In 1984, the first stroke happened - the actor worked very hard, being at home only a couple of months a year. As a result, he lost his speech, his condition was very serious. Only thanks to the care of his wife Catherine did he manage to recover, he again began acting in films, but he could no longer voice his roles on his own. In 1993, Brondukov suffered a second stroke, after which he remained in a coma for three days. His wife quit her job to look after him - she had to help him learn to speak and walk again. The family was left practically without a livelihood, Catherine earned by sewing custom-made concert costumes for pop stars.
When the actor recovered from his illness, there was a crisis in the cinema, and Brondukov was left without work. The situation of the family was so disastrous that they often had to feed on pies and buns, which was given to the artist by passers-by, recognizing him on the streets, and at the market a butcher he knew passed him a bag of bones "for a dog", from which the family cooked soup. The last time Brondukov appeared on the screen was in 1997, and after that he had a third stroke. This time it was not possible to recover - he could not speak and almost did not move, but thanks to the care of his wife he lived for another 7 years. On March 10, 2004 he passed away.
They lived together for 35 years, and their relationship became an example of true love, devotion and patience: Borislav and Ekaterina Brondukov - the king of the episode and his guardian angel.
