The whole world knows Agatha Christie as the queen of the classic detective story and one of the most famous British writers of the twentieth century. Today marks 125 years since her birth. Much has been written about her career and her favorite literary heroes - Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. But in her personal life, incredible, almost detective stories also took place, which are breathtaking. One of them is the story of Agatha Christie's acquaintance with Max Mallowan, future husband, at the archaeological site.
Agatha Christie has been married twice. Her first marriage with Archibald Christie ended unhappily - once her husband told her that he loved another woman and wanted to go to her. It was such a shock for Agatha that after that she disappeared, and the police unsuccessfully searched for her for 11 days. And when they found her, she said that she did not remember anything. Agatha Christie never wrote or spoke about this mysterious disappearance - all this time she spent in seclusion in a hotel under a false name.
To help her recover from the shock, her archaeological friends invited her to excavate the ancient Sumerian city of Ur. Agatha Christie went on a journey on the famous Orient Express. She was 40 years old, and she could not even suspect that a romantic adventure awaited her at the excavation, which would soon end in marriage.
Max Mallowan was 14 years younger than Agatha Christie, he was not a fan of her work and did not even read her books. They met in March 1930, got married in September and spent 46 years together - until Agatha's death. “He was very calm - he spoke little, but he was very receptive. He is silent, stingy in expressing feelings, but does what you need. And it helps better than any words,”wrote Agatha Christie about her husband.
Friends and relatives dissuaded Agatha from a new marriage, doubting that the 14-year age difference could not be a hindrance. She was persuaded to give him a two-year probation to test his feelings. Agatha later recalled: “I'm so glad I didn't listen to her (Madge's sister)! Otherwise, I would have missed forty years of happiness! True, on the day of the wedding, Agatha almost ran away from the crown - she suddenly remembered that her fiancé was the same age as her nephew.
Max Mallowen spent a lot of time on archaeological expeditions, so Agatha Christie often went on trips with him. She was not embarrassed by the fact that he could spend hours looking at ancient writings and not paying attention to her. At the same time, her husband never took her occupations seriously. She wrote wherever and whenever it was necessary. However, in the first year of marriage, Agatha created her famous Miss Marple.
Agatha supported her husband in any endeavors. To be a worthy helper for him, she read history books and studied ancient languages. Thanks to her support, Max became a world-famous scientist - on excavations in Iraq, he found a unique collection of ivory carvings, for which the British Museum paid 1.2 million pounds.
Her life was no less interesting than the one she described in her detective stories. How many more unsolved mysteries did Agatha Christie leave behind? That's just 5 little-known facts about the weirdness of world famous writers
