The path from simpleton to princess is often shown in many modern comedies and melodramas. However, we forget that many of these stories are based on real facts, because, as you know, there is no smoke without fire. Therefore, meet the list of five American women who, by chance, became wives and companions of real, modern kings and princes.
1. Marie-Chantal and Paul
The 1995 wedding to the hereditary Greek prince Paul became the most iconic and largest collection of royalty of the time, surpassing even the wedding of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. However, since Greece is now an independent republic, Marie, being the daughter of American billionaire Robert Miller, and her wonderful husband live like ordinary citizens. Pavel is, among other things, not only an investment banker, but also a wonderful father of five children. In addition, the couple unanimously run a brand of luxury kidswear. Marie claims that her own family inspired her to create the brand, and that success came to her thanks to the business acumen inherited from her father. At royal events, Marie-Chantal still has the right to use her title, as well as family heirlooms and royal jewels. For example, she did this at the wedding of Prince William and Kate.
Her husband's cousin noted in an interview with Vanity Fair:.
2. Liza Halabi and Hussein ibn Talal
Lisa Halabi was a famous and prominent person long before she became the wife of the King of Jordan - Hussein, who is better known as a peacemaker in the Middle East. She is the daughter of an American businessman with Syrian roots and is also well known for her entrepreneurial and philanthropic activities. Lisa is a graduate of Princeton University, where she studied architecture and planning. This helped her design airports in Jordan and Amman, where she, in fact, met her future husband. Hussein, who was 16 years older than the girl, was going through a difficult period at that moment, having lost his third wife in a helicopter crash.
After six weeks of mysterious courtship, which was full of moonlight rides on a motorcycle and an everyday dinner, the couple got married in 1978. As a wedding present, Hussein gave Lisa the name Nur, which translates as "light". True to her name, she, like today's Queen Rania, provided a fragile bridge of understanding between West and East. For the next twenty years, up to the day of Hussein's death, Lisa accompanied him on any travels, thereby getting to know people as close to power as possible, for example, with the likes of Yasser Arafat - the leader of Palestine, Bill Clinton - the President of America, and Yitzhak Rabin - Prime Minister of Israel. Today she is a champion of women's rights, advocates for economic development and supports the rights of refugees.
3. Sarah Butler and Zeid Ra'ad Zeid Al-Hussein
The Texas girl soon became Her Royal Highness, Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan, when she married Prince Zeid Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein. In addition to his title of prince, Zeid also claims the throne of Iraq, since he is the last relative of the country's monarch, Faisal II, who was killed in a coup d'état in 1958.
However, like many members of royal blood, the couple leads a calm and measured life in New York. The prince is today the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, and Sarah works in the area of mother and child protection.
4. Kendra Spears and Rahim Aga Khan
Many have called Kendra the modern Cindy Crawford due to her unique beauty and charm. Spears had a successful modeling career, starred for Vogue magazine and held several fashion shows on the catwalks of Paris and Milan before she met her future husband. Their luxurious and colorful wedding took place in 2013 at the Château de Bellerive in Switzerland. Prince Rahim, in turn, is the heir to the current King of the Aga Khan, and is considered one of the richest members of the royal family in the entire world.
In connection with the marriage, Kendra, who was a former sociology graduate, felt it necessary to give up her modeling career and convert to Islam, which she said brought her happiness and consolation. The couple have children: two sons - Irfan, who was born in 2015, and Sinan, who appeared in the family in 2017.
5. Kelly Rondstvedt and Michael Hubertus
Sharing her memories, Kelly notes that the tall, handsome and intelligent man who introduced himself to her as an investment banker from Florida could not help but like her. However, during her acquaintance, she did not even imagine that the man possesses a much more complete title, namely, he is the hereditary prince of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and at that time was one of the most enviable bachelors in the whole world. Their marriage took place in 2009. year, and it was visited by such famous personalities as King Carl Gustav and the Swedish queen Seville, with whom Hubertus, not surprisingly, has certain bonds. However, he is connected with the same ties with most of the ruling dynasties of Europe, including Great Britain, because the husband of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, was a native of the Saxe-Coburg family.
Since 2011, Michael and Kelly have been living in Coburg, where he manages their family foundation, while the princess is completely absorbed in raising their children. The family also boasts an incredible composition of godparents, including such personalities as Princess Victoria of Sweden, King Philip of Belgium, and Prince Ernst of Hanover.
Continuing the theme - a fascinating story from life, which not only managed to marry a prince, but also escaped punishment for murder.
