The Turkish bath or hammam () is a special ritual whose philosophy is based on physical and spiritual cleansing.
The Turkish bath has a huge number of healing and medicinal properties (improves blood circulation, restores healthy breathing, relieves obesity, helps with insomnia, effectively treats acne skin diseases, heals the skin), has no contraindications and is useful for people of any age. The Prophet Muhammad also said that the warmth of the hammam increases fertility and, accordingly, increases the number of worshipers of Islam.
The construction of a Turkish bath or hammam is almost an art, and the professional and artistic decoration of its interior is an art to the fullest. The decoration, which is usually performed in an oriental style, uses traditional materials - marble and mosaics, and the interior decoration of the hammam is striking in its beauty and grandeur.
The use of mosaics in the interior decoration of the hammam is worthy of a separate discussion, because allows you to achieve an endless variety of design, play of color and light, create an atmosphere and make your stay in the hammam a real pleasure. This approach to the production of mosaic decors for Turkish baths is used by the Artel mosaic workshop (Moscow), which specializes in creating and laying mosaics in Turkish baths.
The dome or vaulted ceiling is always finished with mosaics, which can be marble, glass or smalt. But painting the ceiling is an undesirable thing.
The walls of the hammam are traditionally decorated with marble or mosaics.
The main decoration of the walls is the eastern niches, and here artistic mosaic is indispensable for its decorative properties, because allows you to reproduce not only delicate ornate oriental ornaments, but also real paintings of any complexity.
On the horizontal surfaces of the benches - marble slabs, but if the seats are anatomical, then on the entire surface they are finished with only mosaics, which allows you to decorate any, incl. curved surfaces.
The floor of the hammam can be mosaic or marble, depending on the design project and the wishes of the customer.
If the premises of the Turkish bath are made in an oriental style, then it will certainly be decorated with such bright decorative elements as a mosaic border, artistic mosaic panels in the eastern niches and on the dome. Stylish twisted oriental columns also look very impressive.
But the oriental style is not the only one possible for decorating a Turkish bath. Sometimes customers prefer non-standard hammam design styles, which creates an element of unexpected and interesting effects.
