“My time starts with Jane,” writes about his sister Andrew Birkin in his new photo book “Jane and Serge. Family Album "(" Jane and Serge. A Family Album "), dedicated to the long and widely reported love story of actress Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg.

The 12-year romance between Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin is one of the most extensively documented love affairs of our time. It is not surprising, the characters are painfully bright. Serge Gainsbourg (aka Lucien Ginsburg), a French poet, composer, songwriter and performer, actor and director, was known not only for his versatile talent, but also for his reputation as a notorious brawler, womanizer, and a malicious violator of moral principles. Birkin, who grew up in the free atmosphere of the swinging London of the 1960s, kept up with her common-law husband. The first glory as a film actress brought her a cameo role in the cult film by Michelangelo Antonioni "Magnification" (1967), or rather - the appearance on the screen in all its glory, not covered by clothes of youth. Together with Gainsbourg, they recorded songs, acted in films, raised children, led a bohemian lifestyle and, it seems, enjoyed the constant attention of the public and the press.

Despite the huge number of photographs of the couple, it turned out that there is a whole archive of photographs that have never been published before. “Jane and Serge. Family Album "(" Jane and Serge. A Family Album ") - a photo book by Andrew Birkin, Jane's brother, contains more than a thousand family photos of the period when Jane and Serge lived together, spending time in summer cafes, playing with children and painting portraits of each friend - many warm memories, vivid moments of intimacy and family happiness.

“[The book] was an excuse to go through all my old photographs, which otherwise might have remained unknown even to myself, because I had already forgotten about most of them,” says Andrew in an interview, “and then pack them, tie with a ribbon, and give to Jane, Kate and Charlotte [Kate Barry is Jane Birkin's daughter from her first marriage, Charlotte is Birkin and Gainsbourg's daughter]."

The book was prepared for print by the renowned creative duo of French designers M / M Paris, whose reverent attitude towards typography adds character and chronology to an otherwise rather simple layout. Also, the designers took part in the creation of several pleasant additions to the book, which have already become a good tradition of the Taschen publishing house. Additional materials include a fold-out poster, a badge and a flashback booklet by Andrew and Jane Birkin.

It is interesting that all the Birkin children, like the Gainsbourg children, somehow connected their lives with art, music or cinema. But perhaps the most famous is their common daughter - actress and singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, who recently starred in Lars von Trier's film "Nymphomaniac".
