The photographs taken at the beginning - the middle of the last century, which are now stored in the archives of the Krasnoyarsk Museum of Local Lore, are an attempt to tell the inhabitants of Russia about the distant and unknown Yenisei province and about people who live in distant and then completely unknown lands.
For the Russian Empire, 1822 was marked by the formation of the Yenisei Governorate as part of the East Siberian General Government. In terms of area, it turned out to be the second after the Yakutsk one and was located in an irregular polygon from the Arctic Ocean to China.
Yenisei province - places for Russians living in the middle lane are deaf. And what could they know about them. Unless they are exiled there and there is supposedly mysterious and terrible Turukhan.
There natives and deer live there - sometimes together and sometimes separately. But at the same time, no one can say something significant either about some or about others. and linguists. The former even today did not find any kindred for them among the famous peoples, and the latter singled out their language into a separate family.
The lines of this song are about the distant lands of the Yenisei province:
For what I am sitting, in all conscience, I do not know, But the prosecutors, as always, are right, And now I am sitting in the Turukhansk region, Where under the tsar you were in exile.
It is no less interesting today to look at and color photographs of the Russian Empire at the beginning of the twentieth century … The photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorsky, who took these pictures, remained in history as the author of the most magnificent photographs of the Russian Empire of 1909-1912.

How apartments were rented 100 years ago: What were the tenement houses for the elite and how the guests lived poorer
Pre-revolutionary apartment buildings are a special topic and a special layer both in Russian architecture and in residential construction in general. In the late XIX - early XX century, the popularity of this trend began to grow so rapidly that houses for renting apartments and rooms for rent began to appear in large cities like mushrooms. Wealthy merchants understood that building such houses was a profitable business. It is very interesting what development this direction would have received further, but, alas, a revolution happened … Fortunately, we can still do anything
The sculptor-archaeologist creates the most accurate portraits of people who lived several thousand years ago
We see how the Neanderthals, ancient Greeks, Vikings and our other distant ancestors looked like in the movies or in pictures, but this is just a stylization. Nevertheless, in the 21st century it is possible to see the faces of those who lived before our era in the most accurate reproduction. The sculptor and archaeologist from Sweden Oskar D. Nilsson creates realistic reconstructions of ancient people based on real artifacts, and it's just amazing
Scientists have recreated the head of a Neolithic dog that lived 4,500 years ago
This dog's face is so cute and realistic that you just want to reach out and stroke its thick fur. Meanwhile, this is not a soft toy or stuffed animal, but a head recreated on the basis of a skull, which is 4, 5 thousand years old. Scientists who implemented this idea are sure that this is what a dog that lived in Scotland in the Neolithic era looked like. The skull was found in an ancient tomb discovered by archaeologists in the Orkney Islands
Why are they not buried in Svalbard, and in the French province they don't dig graves: 8 places on the map where people are forbidden to die
Every country and even every city has its own laws and prohibitions, sometimes quite strange. In China, for example, you can't watch time travel movies, and in Singapore you can't buy chewing gum without a doctor's prescription. But all this is small compared to the fact that in some places it is strictly forbidden by law to die
