Not only Gabriel Dawe is famous for her incredible thread webs, which we wrote about at the end of last year. Los angeles studio Ball-Nogues also a master of similar installations, and one of them called String Theory the authors presented at the Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis. Hundreds of spools with multi-colored threads with a total length of several tens of kilometers were arranged in such a way that a kind of woven "tapestry" with a pattern that changed depending on the angle and distance from which it was viewed was obtained. Such an unusual effect was obtained thanks to a special device that connects to a computer and reproduces the ancient Indonesian way of weaving carpets called "ikat".
Using a computer, the device calculates which sections of the thread should be dyed in what color, and how long this thread should be left. And when the process of dyeing and trimming is completed, the finished threads are manually "woven" into a fabric installation by String Theory.
