JACE is an artist who created his own world from characters whom he himself calls "his naughty children named Gouzou". Over the years, he has become a true master of contextual street art. Now Guzu is considered the "brand" of the Reunion Island, there (and all over the world) everyone knows them. It is believed that to see such a joker over reality is a good luck!
The artist, working under the pseudonym JACE, lives on the small French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar. He moved there in 1982 when he was 9 years old. He began to create on the street in 1989, at the age of 15. Forgetful and cute, his works may not bring luck to superstitious ones, but they will definitely cheer you up!
Guzu are cute little people who bring good luck, but sometimes they can be very mischievous and naughty, and then their dad Jace becomes very strict and locks up for a while in some gallery. True, Guzu very quickly find a way out. But, of course, Guzu's irrepressible nature simply symbolizes Jace's craving for adventure; “Nothing will stop me; no fines, no prison, no mountains, no sea, no future of street art, when the fashion for it ends ….
Jace's works are not only in his homeland, but also in London, Rome, Prague, Paris, Le Havre (France), Budapest, Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Lisbon, Barcelona, Macau and many other places.
And recently Jace painted 50 pie sails in Macau! Boats - the artist's canvases look very original and lively, thanks to the creative enthusiasm of the master. Now, on the Malagazi coast, there is something like an exhibition afloat - from his work on the sails of boats. The boats will travel to Reunion Island for the upcoming Tempo Festival in 2009, and the sails will likely be on display in galleries on the island.
