Good or bad, but personally I know several people who believe that many visually impaired or blind artists, sculptors and photographers "ride" on the crest of fame solely because of vision problems. And that if they were sighted, no one would have paid attention to their work. Cruel, but sometimes it makes sense. Sometimes, but not in this particular case, which will be discussed today. Photographers from the New York Society Seeing with Photography Collective consider photography to be almost the only window into the world. Only now they are not destined to look into this window - these shutters are open exclusively for the sighted. Seeing with Photography has celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. Two decades ago, the society was founded by a New Yorker named Mark Andres, a photography teacher who wanted to open the door to art not only for those who, but also for those who. So, under his leadership, both visually impaired and completely blind students began to comprehend the art of photography.

During the training, it turned out that people who have lost their eyesight are still able to distinguish between light and darkness. This was the basis for the concept of photography by blind photographers. So, shooting takes place in a dark room - only objects that will be photographed are illuminated with hand-held flashlights. Of course, the blind maestros are assisted by assistants who direct the camera to the subject and build compositions under the strict guidance of the photographer. They also shine flashlights on objects to indicate to the maestro where to aim the lens.

The result is something gothic-surreal, thanks to the long exposure and the special "gaze" of the photographer, who can see only with the help of his assistants and the camera lens. Alas, they are never destined to see their works …
