American Derek Gores (Derek Gores) became famous for his stunning collages made from glossy magazines, flyers, postcards and other similar materials. However, the author himself believes that collage is not an entirely accurate definition for his works, and ironically calls himself "the southeastern king of scrapbooking."
Derek Gores creates his works under the influence of the works of Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Max Ernst. According to the author, sometimes he starts the creation of his next work from scratch - he just takes the cut pieces of paper and intuitively folds them one way or another, until, finally, something interesting begins to be drawn. Sometimes, on the contrary, Derek nurtures an idea for weeks and months, and all he has to do is select materials to create an image that has already clearly formed in his head.
What the author especially likes is that his works close and from a distance of several steps are completely different things. Derek gives an example: "From a distance you can see the dark hair of a woman, but when you get closer, it turns out that in fact it is made from a landscape of a city at night with many twinkling lights." The author combines sometimes incompatible things in one image and invites viewers to carefully study his works. “I love to see how people behave in the gallery with my work: sometimes their faces look like children who saw the rays of the sun breaking through the dark thickets,” says Derek Gores.
The author was born in 1971 in New York. Derek Gores currently lives in Melbourne, Florida and works primarily on order. In addition to collage, the author is also engaged in design and painting. Over the fifteen years of his artistic career, the author has worked with Lenny Kravitz, U2, Madonna, Adidas, Harley Davidson, the National Football League and others.
