Video: Fairies, Men and Beasts by Derek Kinzett: Contemporary Wire Sculpture

From afar, the snow-white sculptures of Briton Derek Kinzett resemble marble statues. And, although in fact they are made of wire, such structures look no less original than the Carrara stone. The works, which will soon be covered with rust, remind us that art is eternal, even if the life of its works is short.
Modern sculpture has long mastered such a wonderful material as steel wire. The craftsmen began to create voluminous and at the same time lightweight, malleable and at the same time retaining their shape. Fairies with transparent wings, graceful wiry animals, detailed portraits of people - here it is, modern sculpture.
Briton Derek Kinzett is a worthy representative of the wireworm guild. His works are made of galvanized steel mesh. Thanks to the galvanizing process, wire sculptures can live for 15 years without a single rusty spot. And then, unfortunately, they will “turn gray”.
Of course, 15 years is negligible compared to the marble statues of the Renaissance that survived the centuries or millennial sculptures that have survived from the time of the Egyptian pharaohs. Even if the masters of wire art do not claim the laurels of the titans of the Renaissance, there is still something to marvel at in their work.
The neat and thoughtful sculptures of Derek Kinzett, frozen in motion, with chiseled faces, seem to know some secret - and that's why they are so peaceful.
Derek Kinzett needs at least 60 hours of work (i.e. 2.5 days) to complete the sculpture. If the design provides for a lot of parts, it can be doubled for all the time - up to 120 hours (5 days) of labor, respectively.
Modern wire sculpture takes hours and lives for years. Marble sculptures require several years of work and have existed for centuries. Each artist is free to choose what he likes best, and we can only rejoice in the variety of materials and creative concepts.

How an artist tossed between church and art and painted fairies: Cecile Barker
Cecile Barker's works are well known to the Russian audience - usually without mentioning the artist's name. Adorable flower fairies, so similar to real children, inhabit book pages and postcards, they are illustrated by posts on the Internet and congratulations sent by e-mail … But behind these cute scenes there is a difficult struggle between creative freedom, earnings and … faith
Exhibition "Free: Contemporary Art After Frida Kahlo" ("Unbound: Contemporary Art After Frida Kahlo")
Frida Kahlo is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to women who changed the history of visual arts. The fearless surrealist has acquired an almost mythical status. At times, the amazing story of her life even overshadows the glory of her paintings, although, of course, they cannot be separated
LEGO beasts instead of real beasts
Deforestation of tropical forests, pollution of the ocean, melting of glaciers - all this leads to the fact that such seemingly famous species of animals as polar bears, some species of penguins, snakes, monkeys are endangered. This is exactly what the artist Sean Kenney is trying to draw attention to with his exhibition "Living things: a zillion pieces of animal diversity."
Wire Couture Collection: Haute Couture in Barbed Wire
The dresses that Leigh Pennebaker creates are very reminiscent of fashion illustrations in the photographs. But in this case, they would hardly stand out among thousands of their own kind. In fact, the stylish and graceful works of our heroine are sculptures made of rigid barbed wire
Contemporary art from Konstantin Zolotarev. Contemporary Christian art or icon painting style
The icon painting style created for the depiction of saints and Christ is aimed at displaying a different reality. Therefore, in the icon, the portrait resemblance of a saint to a person who actually lived once is not in principle, since it reflects a transformed person who is in the upper world. But after all, the saints once lived on earth, they were like us, they ate and drank and had practically the same problems as modern man
