Video: Quentin Tarantino and his own rating: 5 best films of a cult director
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
Quentin Tarantino is an iconic director, one can safely say, a cult one. His works cannot leave anyone indifferent: you immediately feel either a sharp disgust or wild delight! The director's trademark tricks are: a ragged manner of presentation, aestheticization of violence and scenarios that instantly diverge into quotes that firmly merge into popular culture. Which of his films does he consider his favorites?
Most film experts consider him one of the best directors of all time, and his work has received many prestigious awards. For example, the film "Pulp Fiction" was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as the Academy Awards and Golden Globes for Best Screenplay, the last two awards also went to Django Unchained. And this is not a complete list. Films from the rating presented here can be watched endlessly, but on condition that you love "Tarantino", of course.
Reservoir Dogs, 1992
This is the first film of the cult director, he brought him worldwide fame. This film is like first love: you cannot say that it is the best, but this work, where Tarantino put his whole soul into. The film's budget was so miserable that virtually all of the actors wore their own costumes. This did not in the least prevent the film from hitting a real jackpot not only in the world box office, but also at many prestigious film festivals! Tarantino is convinced that a large budget is not able to make a movie cool. "I could have made Reservoir Dogs without Harvey Keitel, for only $ 30,000, and the picture would have remained just as great!" says Quentin.
Coolest movie scene: Mr. Blonde's (Michael Madsen's) dance with a cut off policeman's ear to the perky Stealers Wheel track "Stuck In The Middle". It was an unforgettable sight!
"Pulp Fiction", 1994
This film became for Quentin a real pass to the wide boulevard of Hollywood stars. Despite the wild success of the previous film, Tarantino spent a lot of time personally convincing the actors to star in his new film. The main character was played by Uma Thurman (she is often called the director's favorite actress). She agreed only after the director had read his script to her on the phone several times.
Coolest movie scene: after John Travolta's hero gave her an adrenaline rush into her heart, a little battered, Uma Thurman hounds a joke. Moreover, the one that the heroine of the brilliant Uma had already told in the pilot episode of the series, the plot of which is one in one of the next bestseller of Quentin - "Kill Bill".
Kill Bill, 2003
A bloody and cruel story about revenge by a miracle of the surviving killer bride, Tarantino was born during the filming of "Pulp Fiction". Uma Thurman agreed to the role of the main character in absentia. He and Quentin discussed the details and surroundings in the style of seventies kung fu movies. Rumor has it that Quentin wanted a yellow tracksuit, and Uma insisted on a wedding dress. We see an amazing compromise in the film.
Coolest movie scene: a real samurai duel between the "bride" (Thurman) and O-Ren Ishi (Lucy Liu) in the evil establishment "House of Blue Leaves". In this stunning scene there was everything: a Japanese punk band performing anime songs, falling snow, bottomless night sky and rivers of blood flowing into a feng shui fountain … A true standard of cinema aesthetics!
Inglourious Basterds, 2009
The unrestrained flight of the director's fantasy, of course, has little to do with the real story. But this does not make that extremely witty tape less exciting! Even the Germans themselves liked this version of events about the overthrow of the Third Reich.
Coolest movie scene: incredible charm - SS Sturmbannfuehrer Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz) beats out an indulgence for war crimes and a mansion, in exchange for not "noticing" the murders of Hitler and Himmler. “Do you think you will end the war by planting a bomb in the cinema? No, it will be me if I don’t make one phone call,”he says to the hero of Brad Pitt. Thanks to this film, Christoph Waltz became a world celebrity and even won an Oscar!
Django Unchained, 2012
Tarantino is one of those unique directors who not only love, but adore experiments! This time he shot just a branded western. In their own style, once again subtly mocking the history! “I didn't want to make a movie like Uncle Tom's Cabin or Gone With the Wind,” says Quentin. “I wanted to tell a great adventure story. I just wanted to put it in the days of the slave South! By the way, “Django” has collected so much money that now I intend to shoot only westerns until the end of my days,”the master joked.
Coolest movie scene: the brilliant Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of a slave owner, in a state of extreme indignation, hits the table with his hand. In doing so, he breaks the glass. The most interesting thing is that Leo actually hurt his hand, but stoically continued to play. Tarantino later called this take "bewitching". The director believed that for this role DiCaprio should have received an Oscar. But it turned out differently. Even more curious is that Christoph Waltz grabbed him for the lead male role in Django.
A genius person is a genius in everything! Quentin is not only a talented director and actor, but also a competent film critic. Read about it in our other article about him: 10 of Quentin Tarantino's favorite films, for which he personally wrote reviews.
