Artistic styles never age and there is always room for a return to the art of the old masters. Another proof of this fact was the unusual "Modern Renaissance" competition on the Worth1000 Internet portal. The task of the participants was to process celebrity portraits as if the hand of one of the titans of the Renaissance had touched them. and subsequent eras in painting. And how they coped with it - see for yourself.
In this selection - the winners of the competition "modern Renaissance" celebrity portraits … All these portraits were made using photo processing technologies - but this work, of course, is not mechanical. Making a modern movie star a man of the Middle Ages is no easier than forcing a man to levitate, as Anna Zhuravleva does. Therefore, among the thousands of participants and their works, only the most worthy remained.
Third place in the competition - Orlando Bloom. His portrait is one of the most archaic in style; it recalls Italian Renaissance frescoes and paintings by Piero della Francesca. Perhaps the author was inspired by Bloom's participation in the historical film Kingdom of Heaven. But the portrait of Johnny Depp, Bloom's partner in the first film "Pirates of the Caribbean" does not at all remind of filibusters and piastres. The restrained and austere contours of the Victorian portrait are rather an allusion to another image of Depp: the second-hand "pirate" Corso from the mystical film "The Ninth Gate".
The second place belongs to the romantic portrait in the style of the first half of the 19th century, and it depicts Penelope Cruz. The second - with Natalie Portman, who became famous in childhood as the girl Matilda in "Leon". But in the picture she looks more like a princess from "Star Wars" Padmé Amidala.
12th place went to this portrait of Leonardo DiCaprio, inspired by the original by Rembrandt. In the first place is the realistic Gemma Utherton.
Separately, it is worth noting the tenth place - the portrait of Kate Winslet in the Art Nouveau style. In general, everything celebrity portraits of the dozens of winners is a great example of the fact that creativity in our time is a game with old forms and new content, and at the same time not without charm.
