Public transport is often perceived as a sheer punishment by all who are forced to use it regularly. Constant crush, traffic jams, grandmothers with wallets and students with backpacks - stress, and that's all! The complete opposite of our transport - Philippine jeep busespassengers who get a lot of pleasure from their appearance alone. Amazing design makes them a real decoration of city streets!
Jeepney buses appeared in the Philippines in the last days of World War II. They remained a kind of "gift" from America: after the withdrawal of troops, this country sold hundreds of jeeps by the Filipinos for a penny. In order to provide the destroyed country with transport, it was decided to use them as public transport, having previously carried out modernization.
The jeeps were dismantled, the number of passenger seats was increased, they were equipped with roofs, and they got carried away with the process so much that, in addition to technical improvements, they also took up the external transformation. The jeep buses now have colorful ornaments, funny drawings, celebrity faces and even advertising images.
Today Jeepney bus is a real "visiting card" of the archipelago, they are popular both among the local population and among numerous tourists, but despite this, recently the question has been seriously raised that they are "morally" outdated. This transport heavily pollutes the environment, and also obstructs traffic due to its impressive dimensions. Research has shown that jeeps are uneconomical: a 16-seat Jeepney bus uses as much fuel as a modern air-conditioned 54-seat bus. However, the Filipinos still have a chance to give a second life to their favorites: many jeeps-buses have already been purchased to serve theme parks, resorts and schools.
Perhaps, only the Swedes, who created a sculpture-bus of 50 cars, can compare with the Filipinos in creativity!
