The Monster Engine is a project by artist Dave Devries, on which he worked from 1998 to 2005. All this time, the author was trying to find an answer to one single question: what would the children's drawings look like if a professional artist decided to transfer them to the canvas?
It all started in 1998, when Dave's niece painted his notebook with her scribbles. When he looked at them more closely, his imagination drew him the same pictures, but with the use of a 3D effect. As a comic book artist, Dave had to bring pictures to life and make them look three-dimensional every day, and he decided that he could do the same with children's scribbles. “It wasn't research and it didn't take me years of hard work. I was just curious to see how Jessica's drawings would look in 3D,”says the author.
The drawing technology is very simple. With the help of a projector, Dave transferred the images created by the children onto canvases, and then, with the help of coloring, he tried to make them as realistic as possible. In 2005, the author presented the results of his work in the book "The Monster Engine". "An engaging and insightful book that brings together the boundless imagination of the children of one of the most respected comic book artists," says Bill Harbourt, professor at Minot State University.
Dave Devries says that as a child he was very fond of comic book heroes, and as an adult, he got the opportunity to draw his favorite characters on his own and get paid for it. However, the artist's work was not limited to creating comics - he also had to draw monsters for Universal Studios. According to the author himself, these monsters were much worse than those that his niece once painted.
According to Dave, the work on the project made him remember his childhood, and in addition, to understand that regardless of his real age, a person can always look at things through the eyes of a child.

The synthesis of these two trends in art formed the basis for a unique creative find of a talented artist, where expressive

Children in a cage. Sad animal eyes in Oscar Ciutat's photography project
When they say that the eyes don't lie, they mean people. But the Spanish photographer Oscar Ciutat was convinced that the eyes of animals are just as eloquent, and all without exception: wild, domestic, predators or vegetarians. Eyes are the mirror of the soul, and what is reflected in the mirrors of those animals that are imprisoned in the cages of the zoo? The answer to this question is contained in the photo project Caged by Oscar Ciutat
Adult children or child adults? Photo project "Kidults" Marcin Cecko
We recently wrote about the work of this distinctive Polish photographer, Marcin Cecko. In particular, about his "wet" works made by an ancient four-megapixel camera. But in the context of the last works of this author, one cannot fail to mention a series of adult-child characters, designed in a photo project called "Kidults". Trust me it's worth it
