To be honest, few people know that Amy Stevens photographed until she turned 30. But now her name is certainly associated with something bright, festive, delicious - after all, Amy herself bakes, decorates and photographs cakes !
As stated, it all started with Amy's 30th birthday approaching. According to the photographer, this day was to become "not just a birthday celebration, but also a celebration of cakes, flowers, patterns and ridiculousness." Initially, the woman planned to make 30 cakes on her own and then photograph them. True, Amy did not manage to fully realize her venture by the appointed time, but in the process of work she had a huge number of ideas.
When Amy Stevens started working on the project, she had to master not only the subtleties of studio photography, but also the basics of culinary arts and cake decorating. She ordered master classes on DVD and tried to follow them, but soon realized that her cakes would never be the same as in the video tutorials. So Amy decided to make them "as weird and amazing as possible."
Several years have passed since then, and Amy Stevens already has a lot of photographs that make up the "Confections" collection. Bright and intricately decorated cakes, pies and pastries are photographed against equally bright and intricate backgrounds. According to the author, this collection is a testament to her desire for perfection and beauty, which is combined with the absurdity of the results. It is also a combination of the art of cooking, design and photography.
Amy Stevens holds a BA in Photography from Arizona State University and an MA in Photography from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. The photographer has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Seattle, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago and Montreal.
