Video: Creation of man: original photographs by Alejandro Gasteasi

According to mythological "recipes", the gods often sculpted the first person out of earth or clay, sometimes adding something to their liking, like their own blood. The Spanish photographer Alejandro Gasteasi followed the same pattern. His sitter was all smeared with mud (it symbolizes the "dust of the earth"), into which blue paint was poured from the heart (not divine blood, but there is something aristocratic in it). What happened next - read below.
The "First Man" is born gradually, just like Pushkin's prophet - a man undergoing very painful, but necessary changes, because he has to bring the truth to people. Remember: Pushkin's god changes the perception of his prophet: he alternately modifies his vision, hearing, speech, burdens him with a flaming conscience. The Prophet, in turn, learns his new body and new soul, marveling at the changes.
Why are we doing this? The fact is that the 31-year-old photographer Alejandro Gasteazi also talks about the artist-prophet in this photo shoot. According to the idea of the author and his friend (also a sitter), the original photographs should tell about the creative abilities of a person, about the process of knowing oneself, about the constant search and attempts to understand their own body, and through it the spirit. The stress that the creator experiences at the same time reflects the desire to become better, spiritually and professionally.
Alejandro Gasteasi draws attention to the fact that the project is not a collection of original photographs, but a holistic story about a difficult task of self-discovery. Of course, taken separately, these shots will not look so impressive. After all, all together they give an image in dynamics, create a special expression.
And why was there blue paint and "dust of the earth"? The author needed them to make it easier to process pictures in Photoshop. Areas of the body that were not applied were removed on a computer. The result was something like a life mask - but a mask that does not hinder movement.
Recently, in addition to working directly behind the lens, Alejandro Gasteasi has been developing and implementing various techniques for processing digital images on a computer and other photo manipulations. In the future, the author of this series of works plans to create something else in his favorite genre of storytelling in pictures.
