In order to characterize the work of the sculptor Paul Pacotto, the expression that is widespread in his homeland fits perfectly. "Cherchez la femme" or "Seek a woman." Indeed, in each of his works, a representative of the fair sex is hidden, although sometimes it is not so easy to guess about this.
Paul Pacotto's talent lies in the ability to play with light and shadow. The author's metal sculptures are welded in such a way that when the light source is correctly positioned, they cast a shadow in the form of a graceful female silhouette. In principle, this idea itself is not new: we are already familiar with the work of such representatives of shadow art as Tim Noble and Sue Webster, Fred Eerdekens or Michael Neff. However, the works of Paul Pacotto are filled with real French charm: violins, roses, metal swans - and fragile female figures next to them.
The sculptures of the author are made of sheet brass, and subsequently covered with 24-carat gold or silver.
Paul Pacotto argues that the appearance of certain premets is often deceiving, and their inner essence is often not at all what we imagined. You can see the true soul of each object - you just need to know from which side to look. For "shadow art" the theory is just perfect, isn't it?
The author was born in 1939. Lives and works in Nice. He began exhibiting his works in 1971. Paul Pacotto's work has won numerous awards in France, Switzerland and Japan.
