In photographs of a 40-year-old Chinese photographer Jiang Zhi life and death, joy and sorrow, love and ashes exist hand in hand. An original, philosophical-romantic project with a characteristic name is dedicated to this. Love letters … Using alcohol as fuel, the author sets fire to magnificent flowers and photographs them, enveloped in colorful flames. The photographs symbolize the transience of life, the precocity of love and the volatility of fate. For his project, the artist chooses flowers with different moods: white delicate lilies and orchids, passionate red poppies, hot orange sunflowers. Each flower has its own destiny, its own history. With flowers and fire, Jiang Zhi writes passionate and dramatic love stories that remind of a bygone era of romantics and lyricists, emotional and impulsive people who know how to give flowers and write true love letters to loved ones.
Beautiful flowers, which under the influence of fire turn into coal and ash, teach us that beautiful things, objects and objects are not all beauty, but only its embodiment. And even after these things disappear, cease to exist, beauty continues to live and delight us with more and more new incarnations. The same happens with love: even when a loved one leaves and it seems that the heart has forever turned into a bunch of miserable fragments, she continues to live nearby, never leaving us for a long time.
The personal exposition of the photographer will take place at the Shanghai M97 Gallery until July 8, and you can get acquainted with the work of Jiang Zhi online on his website.
