A rainbow is not as frequent as we would like it to be. That's why the artist Michael Jones McKean and decided to make an installation to create artificial rainbows … And more recently, its current version has been installed right on the street in the city of Omaha in the US state of Nebraska.
The rainbow has always fascinated people with its beauty, airiness and unreality. Many have tried to make a man-made version of this miracle of nature. For example, the company "Basheer Graphic Books", commissioned to create an artificial rainbow, consisting of five thousand customer cards. But the American artist Michael Jones McKean created a real man-made rainbow. It can now be seen by anyone walking or passing by the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha.
Michael Jones McKean spent eight years working on an apparatus that could generate an artificial rainbow. And so, he finally did it! Twice a day, he turns it on for fifteen minutes, delighting the residents of Omaha and guests of the city with an amazing sight - a rainbow hovering over the city street.
And this is not at all the same case as with fake Christmas tree decorations. An artificial rainbow evokes the same sense of admiration and joy as a real one.
Moreover, to create this rainbow, McKean uses only purified rainwater and energy obtained with the help of solar panels. A special illumination system emits a glow that, passing through the wall of the smallest droplets of water created by a pump with a spray, turns into a rainbow!
