Just as people set up their homes, birds make sure that their nests are both a cradle and protection for their chicks. A variety of bird architecture masterpieces can be seen in the photographs Sharon Beals. Series "Bird Nests" - This is a large collection, exhibits for it were provided by the California Academy of Sciences and the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology. The eggs and nests that we can see in the photographs were found throughout the twentieth century.
Looking at the photographs, one should note the ingenuity of the birds, because they use a wide variety of materials in order to "equip" their home: a variety of sticks, twigs, animal hair, mosses, lichens, feathers, shells … Scientists even managed to find several nests, twisted inside old cans.
The black background in Sharon Beals' photographs was chosen very well, this makes it possible to study each nest in detail, without being distracted by anything secondary. Eggs have survived along with most of the nests: this, of course, complements the “idyllic” picture, but at the same time evokes a feeling of melancholy that these chicks were never destined to be born.
Sharon Beals understands how important it is today to talk about environmental issues, so her project, first of all, is a reminder of how to take care of birds. Widespread construction, climate change - all this leads to the fact that birds are losing their usual habitats. The photographer hopes that the Bird Nests photo project will become a powerful impetus to popularize the thesis about the need to protect nature.
By the way, people also try to compete with birds in the skill of building nests from time to time: just remember the unusual works of the sculptor Patrick Dougherty. However, looking at the variety of bird dwellings, you understand that they do it much better, right?

The strangest union of the twentieth century: 50 years of enlightened love between the Nobel laureate Sartre and the feminist de Beauvoir
They met in their student years and went through life hand in hand for more than half a century, but in the eyes of those around them, this union was too strange. The Nobel laureate and ideologue of feminism was united by a love for philosophy and for each other, but in their relationship many of the usual signs of marriage were missing. One can endlessly argue about whether such love had a right to exist, but for Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, the answer was obvious and unambiguous
What's left behind the scenes of "Brother" and "Brother-2": how the cult films of the late twentieth century appeared
Disputes about these works of director Alexei Balabanov continue to this day. Someone claims that "Brother" and "Brother-2" are naive and primitive films, while someone calls them cult films for a whole generation "film textbooks of the 1990s" and believes that Sergei Bodrov managed to create the image of "a hero of our time ". Be that as it may, there is probably no person who has not seen these films. Balabanov himself did not even expect that his paintings would become so popular. After all, they were filmed, as they say, on naked enthusiasm
Legendary archaeological adventurers of the early twentieth century, whose adventures would have been the envy of Indiana Jones himself
When the first film about Indiana Jones was released in 1981, interest in archeology increased many times over. What was previously associated with endless excavation of ceramic shards, through the prism of adventure, suddenly turned into something fun and exciting. Despite the fact that modern archaeologists are skeptical about the actions that take place in the film, history knows several names of men and women of the same profession, whose thirst for adventure can be compared to Indiana John
CHIK and UPC instead of LOL and OMG: what abbreviations did the youth use at the beginning of the twentieth century
As you know, after the October Revolution, the young Land of Soviets brought with it a new reality. The outlook of the younger youth was changing. It was also reflected in the impetuous urge to abbreviate words. It was accepted to greet each other with the abbreviation "SKP", and to appoint a date "on Tverbul near Pampush"
