In recent years, feminism, seemingly alien to this patriarchal region, has been raising its head in Central America. In support of their "sisters in arms", European feminists created giant portrait in Amsterdam. Rather, this art object was created by a Cuban artist on their order. Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada.
Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada is one of the most famous contemporary gigantic artists. This Cuban travels all over the world and creates huge portraits of people in different parts of it. As examples of his work, we can mention the giant image of Barack Obama on the sand of one of the beaches of the Spanish province of Catalonia, or the new work of Rodriguez-Gerada, which appeared recently in Amsterdam.
The Cuban artist was invited to this city by Dutch feminists who wanted to morally support feminists from Central America, to draw the world's attention to their problems and to the very fact of the existence of public organizations dedicated to the protection of women's rights in Mexico, Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras and other countries of the region.
Here, commissioned by European feminists, Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada created a giant portrait of a woman from Central America. To do this, the artist needed a free area the size of two football fields.
For several days, he and eighty assistants outlined on the ground on the banks of one of the canals in Amsterdam the contours of a gigantic woman's face, looking with a piercing gaze directly into the eyes of a viewer, albeit a virtual one.
