His film debut took place in 1970, and since 1975 he began to actively act in films. Very often he got the role of heroes similar to himself - sincere, straightforward, uncompromising, passionate and difficult. The greatest success with the audience enjoyed the film "Green Van", where Solovyov played the role of a horse thief nicknamed Handsome. Director Vladimir Motyl said that of all the actors in Soviet cinema, only Vladimir Vysotsky, Oleg Dal and Alexander Solovyov managed to be absolutely independent in the acting profession. Unfortunately, they were united not only by this, but also by a common addiction.

Many colleagues and acquaintances said that the actor had a very difficult character. Conflicts often arose due to the fact that Soloviev was too straightforward, quarrelsome and uncompromising. He could tell the director in person that he was mediocre, and the play was nonsense. Everyone who knew the actor said that two completely different people live in him - one is bright, kind, sympathetic, generous, and the second is hot-tempered, cocky, not controlling outbursts of rage. Because of this, he had to leave the tetra. Emmanuel Vitorgan said about him: "".
