British grandmother Grace Jones, who recently celebrated her 112th birthday, met the journalists and told them her secret of longevity. Together with Grace was her 80-year-old daughter Deirdre, and both of them said that, in general, despite their age, they feel great.
Grace Jones is now considered the oldest resident of the UK, after another record holder, Olive Evelyn Boar, died at the age of 113 in August this year. It's funny that before that, the record was held by another lady born in 1899, who was the full namesake of Grace Jones. That Briton also lived to see her 113th birthday and died in November 2013.
Naturally, the first thing the journalists who met with Grace asked about her health and her secret to longevity. “Yes, the secret is simple. A glass of whiskey at night. I have adhered to this tradition for 62 years now. I started when I marked my fifty-kopeck piece, and then every, every night I miss a shot of whiskey in front of the station, and I'm not going to stop. Moreover, my doctor also told me, they say, Grace, continue to drink, it's good for your heart."
This may seem far-fetched, after all, to someone who does not know the destructive power of alcohol, but in fact it makes sense. In small doses, alcohol, especially when taken into a ritual, can help to ask the day's stress. Less stress means longer life. Another long-liver Betty White, whom many will remember for her role as a maid in Santa Barbara, will also support this theory: just a little alcohol on a regular basis can do wonders. The main thing here is not to get carried away.
“I feel like I'm 60 years old,” says 113-year-old Grace. And her daughter confirms: “My mom is an incredible person. She still cares a lot about her appearance. When she married my father, she became a socialite. She loves meeting people, she still loves reading books, watching TV. Every week she goes to Broadway to buy something for herself, weather permitting. She's in excellent health, well, maybe she's hearing a little worse than before."
Grace Jos, daughter of a vicar, at one time married Leonard, who was also the son of a priest. “We were all close. He was a real gentleman. He died at the age of 79 in 1986 after 53 years of marriage. Grace herself was not idle, her life was filled with events and her favorite work - she ran a factory for the manufacture of ladies' hats. She now lives in a large mansion.
“She is gorgeous, she is beautiful and intelligent,” says Deirdre of his mother. - She's still full of life. She likes her shot of whiskey before bed and why not? She has been following this tradition for over 60 years, and I have to admit, this is a great way to unwind at the end of the day. Moreover, it is obvious that it is good for my mother."
It must be admitted that the beneficial effect of small doses of alcohol on longevity has not yet been scientifically confirmed, but Italian scientists were able to identify three factors that definitely contribute to a long life. Read about it in our articlededicated to this study.
