Adventures James Bond have become classics of world cinema for a long time. Dangerous adventures, amorous connections of a secret agent have not ceased to delight enthusiastic spectators for several decades. Meanwhile, the screen hero had a real prototype under him, acting on the side of British intelligence. He was a Serb Dusan Popov.

Dusan (Dushko) Popov was born in 1912 in Austria-Hungary (now it is the territory of Serbia) into a wealthy family. He received his higher education in the German city of Farnburg. It was there that he was recruited into the ranks of the Nazi intelligence Abwehr by his student friend Johnny Jebsen. An ardent opponent of the policies pursued by the new German government, Dusan went to the British embassy and expressed his desire to work for British intelligence MI6, thereby becoming a double agent.

After being appointed, he was sent to neutral Portugal, from where it was easiest to send disinformation to the Nazis. Dusan Popov led a more than luxurious life. He lived in the best apartments, chose the most beautiful women as his mistresses and deftly maneuvered between the intelligence services of both countries. By the way, Dusan Popov got his code name "Tricycle" (tricycle) because of his addiction to having sex with three women at once.

It was in Portugal that the future writer, and at that time also an agent of British intelligence, Ian Flemming, met Dushan Popov. Flemming observed the idle behavior of Popov, who loved casinos and women, but at the same time turned incredible scams. Once the writer saw how in one of the casinos Dusan made a bet with the money allocated to him by the special services. It was 50 thousand dollars (today more than 1.5 million dollars). Popov knew that the casino owner would back down and did not lose money. Later, Ian Flemming will put his James Bond in the same conditions in the book "Casino Royale" and the writer admits that it was the charismatic Dusko Popov who became the prototype of his fictional agent.

During his service, the agent managed to transmit a lot of false information that misinformed Nazi Germany. But in the end, due to betrayal, Dusan Popov was exposed. He remained in Britain until the end of the war. After the end of hostilities, the former double agent continued to lead a luxurious life. He died in 1981. Like the real one, the screen agent preferred the most beautiful women, who were now called the best Bond girls.
