People are still horrified when they read about the medieval instruments of torture with which the unfortunate victims were tortured. But there were also other methods of torture, which did not leave obvious marks on the human body, but at the same time deprived them of their life or suppressed their personality. How people were destroyed with food and insomnia - further in the review.
1. Torture with salt
Torture with salt did not mean sprinkling it on the victim's wounds, but deliberately feeding it. In ancient China, this torture was carried out by “salt makers” - those who added various impurities to salt in order to increase its weight. The delinquents were fed very salty food, while practically not giving them anything to drink.
In modern China, this torture is not forgotten. In 2000, dissident Yuan Yuchun was imprisoned. The inmate was fed an extremely salty food, and then starch with added salt was poured in for a week. The woman recalled how her body became stiff, darkened, and salty mucus dripped from her nose. She was lucky, the authorities decided that she was about to fall into a coma and released her, because there was no visible damage from the torture.
2. Torture with water
In the Middle Ages, in addition to sophisticated stabbing and cutting instruments of torture, a “humane” funnel was used through which water was poured into the victim's body. The torture could take place in several approaches. An excess of water in the body caused pain in the stomach in the tortured person, led to a violation of water-salt metabolism, edema, vomiting, convulsions and death. By the way, this type of torture took place only a few decades ago.
3. Torture with boiled meat
The Chinese have proven to be quite ingenious with regard to torture products. Another way of food torture is boiled meat. The offender was seated in a cramped cage and fed only with lean boiled meat and water. The man ate this way for a month and then died. Scientists explain this by the fact that the Chinese mainly ate food of plant origin, but only their stomachs could not cope with meat, the production of enzymes necessary for the assimilation of meat was disrupted. In addition, for normal digestion, the body needs movement, and the tight cage did not allow the victims to move.
4. Torture with chicken eggs
Chicken eggs were also a torture instrument at one time. A wide tube was inserted into the victim's esophagus and several whole eggs were pushed there. The stomach could not digest them, since the shell practically does not undergo fermentation, and the egg continues to move through the intestines, leading the tortured person to excruciating pain. It is not possible to break a dense testicle inside the body. In addition, eggs prevent the release of other waste products in a natural way, and a person experiences severe pain and torment, up to death.
5. Torture by insomnia
In the XX century, torture with insomnia was very fond of. The person was brought to a state in which he confessed to anything, while there was no fact of physical violence. It is known from history that in the basements of the NKVD they were very fond of arranging "sleepless weeks" for the suspects. The interrogations did not stop for a minute, and the arrested could not sleep. Even the most persistent in spirit "broke" and signed everything they were accused of. It has been proven that a complete failure of the body begins after 72 hours of wakefulness. The nervous system can’t stand it, because it doesn’t get the necessary "reboot" in the form of sleep. A person loses the ability to comprehend reality and fiction, and the protective functions of the body are manifested in the fact that it is necessary to do anything (including signing any paper), so that a dream comes sooner.
But, as history testifies, people were still subjected to physical violence much more often than moral. 13 most sophisticated medieval torture devices - a vivid confirmation of this.
