According to "Literature Novosti", the novels "Anna Karenina" and "Lolita" were named the main works for the last 200 years. More than a hundred of the most famous American and British writers participated in the survey. Among the survey participants were Stephen King, Norman Mailer, Anne Patchett, Joyce Carol Oates, Jonathan Franzen and other well-known novelists of our time. They had to compile a list of the ten greatest literary works and rank them in importance.

In total, the writers offered 544 works. In each list, the book scored a certain number of points: first place - 10 points, ten - 1 point.

The ten greatest works of the 20th century are headed by the novel "Lolita" by Vladimir Nabokov. He is followed in the ranking by Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time, Ulysses and Dubliners by J. Joyce, Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Marquez, Noise and Fury by Faulkner, To the Lighthouse Virginia Woolf, O'Connor's Complete Stories, and Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Flame rounds off the list.

The ten greatest literary works of the 19th century are as follows: Anna Karenina by Tolstoy, Madame Bovary by Flaubert, War and Peace by Tolstoy, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. The short stories by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, as well as Middlemarch by George Eliot, Moby Dick by Herman Melville, Great Expectations by Dickens, Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky, and Emma by Jane Austin also made it to the list.
