Not many people can live next to geniuses. Their strength, temperament, independence suppresses everyone around … That was exactly what was Pablo Picasso … Throughout his life, there were women around him who idolized him and went crazy in the literal sense. But only Françoise Gilot, a rebellious muse, filled the master with vitality for 10 years, while managing not to waste her own.
He was 62, she was 22. Françoise Gilot was a young artist posing for the world famous maestro and taking private lessons from him. Six months later, their classes grew into a whirlwind romance. New emotions, of course, were reflected in the work of Picasso. In 1946, the artist painted the painting "Flower Woman", inspired by the femininity and rebelliousness of his beloved.
Their romance lasted 10 years. During this time, Françoise gave Picasso two children, Claude and Paloma. The woman put up with his explosive character, selfishness. She could not just forgive him for betrayal. Françoise Gilot did not fight in hysterics, did not go crazy, did not commit suicide, like his other wives. She just packed her things, took the children and left.
Later, the artist's favorite muse will write a book "My Life with Picasso", which will make the master very angry, but at the same time will gain worldwide popularity. Françoise Zhilo is now 93 years old. She continues to paint, publishes books, and, of course, recalls that period of her life when she was the favorite muse of an extravagant genius with an explosive character.
Incredible creative fertility, irrepressible energy and a desire to experiment made Picasso an icon of the artistic world of the twentieth century. Rare pictures of Picasso from the archive of the photojournalist LIFE will show the artist from a completely unexpected side.
