Caucasian military outfit hard to confuse with anything: a characteristic long coat-Circassian coat and special breast pockets. However, few people know that these pockets, intercepted with braid, bore the name "Gazyri" and were irreplaceable in battle. In them, the highlanders carried gunpowder and bullets in order to reload their weapons at any time.
Gazyrs were made of ivory, and in their appearance they resembled small sealed cases. Ceremonial gazyry were sometimes made of silver, and they served not only as a bandolier, but also as an adornment of an attire. The most valuable quality of gazyri is its tightness, the gunpowder in such a container did not get wet under any conditions. A warrior could ride on horseback, lie on the ground, get wet in the rain - the gunpowder remained dry and could be used as intended at any time.
It is extremely important that the gazyri were attached to the chest pockets at a special angle, so that, if necessary, to protect the chest from being hit by a saber.
Many gazyri are well known from the film "Prisoner of the Caucasus", in which Goonies uses a bandolier to store cigarettes and lighters. Of course, this episode has nothing to do with the real purpose of the gazyry. This fiction only adds to the comic effect.
Sometimes dry chips could be stored in the gazyri, which were used to kindle a fire, which could also help the mountaineer in difficult times.
