"Nobody believes they are twins!" - says the mother of wonderful girls, Kalani and Jarani. The fact is that the babies were born with different skin and eye colors: Kalani is white-skinned, blue-eyed and seems to have blond hair, while her sister Jarani was born with dark skin and brown eyes. This happens in one in 500 cases in couples where the parents also belong to different races. "These are magical children," says mom, "And this clearly shows why there should be no place for racism in this world."

White 25-year-old Whitney Meyer and her African-American boyfriend Thomas Dean themselves did not expect such a turn of events, but they are sure that this is not just a coincidence, but a gift from heaven - after all, such a miracle happens very rarely. The girls were born last April, and when my mother saw them for the first time, she was very taken aback for a while. “I asked the doctor why Kalani had such fair skin. I couldn't understand why she was so different from her sister. I even thought that she had albinism, or that she would later darken. But no, it's just a miracle, and a miracle it stayed, says Whitney.

Such twins are called dizygotic when not one, but two eggs are fertilized. Therefore, these twins have different genotypes, and they are more like ordinary brothers and sisters than the twins we are used to, since they have only half of the genes that match, and sometimes even less. Naturally, the chances of such babies are very rare - the overall frequency of twins is only 1% of all babies born, and only one in 500 of these twins can have a different skin color.

"Nobody believes they are twins," Mom says. - "We go out into the street, and strangers see that the girls are dressed the same, but the little ones are so different - and this confuses people." But girls are different not only in appearance - their characters are also different from each other. "Kalani is a very loud child," says her mother. "She crawls all over the house non-stop. And Jay doesn't really like lying, eating, and being in her arms."

For Whitney and Thomas, the birth of twins was a real miracle. And not only because they are so unique, but also because it allowed them to give these little ones the unspent love that lay in their hearts as a bitter residue after their two-year-old son Pravin died two years ago. Praveen was dark-skinned, just like Jarani, which is why Whitney's mother was so surprised that Kalani was born white.

"In our family, we don't care about skin color," says Whitney. "Love is love." Whitney also has an older son, Talan, from a previous relationship. Talan is white-skinned, like both of his parents, but for him his sisters are equally dear and beloved. "In this regard, he is, one might say, a complete color blind," - smiles mom. - "He is the best older brother in the world. And people in this country should learn from him. For him there are simply no prejudices associated with skin color.. You either love the person or you don't."
