31 years ago, on February 22, 1989, Nadezhda Kosheverova, a Soviet film director, Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR, creator of the wonderful movie fairy tales "Cinderella", "Shadow", "Tsarevich Prosha", "Nightingale", "Donkey Skin", passed away. One of her most famous works was "The Old, Old Tale" - a film that was released 50 years ago. He became one of the best in the filmography of Oleg Dahl and brought the first popularity to Marina Neyelova. True, this might not have happened, because the actor was categorically against the approval of the young and, as it seemed to him, a very weak actress for the role of the princess.
The script for the film, written by Julius Dunsky and Valery Fried, was based on Andersen's fairy tales. The director was Nadezhda Kosheverova, already known at that time for the films Cinderella and Tiger Tamer. She decided very quickly with the actor for the main male role - even in her previous work, Kosheverova wanted to work with Oleg Dal, but at that time he was still a student at the Shchukin school, and he was not allowed to go to the shooting. After 5 years, she remembered her intention and invited Dahl to audition.
The actor fully met her expectations. Kosheverova recalled: "".
Oleg Dal began acting in films back in 1962, at the age of 21, but nationwide popularity came to him in the late 1960s, when the films Chronicle of a Dive Bomber, Zhenya, Zhenechka and Katyusha ", And after them -" Old, old tale ". When the shooting of Kosherova's fairy tale began, the actor was at the peak of popularity and could afford to disagree with the director and express his dissatisfaction. Which he did after learning about the choice of the main character.
For a long time, Kosheverova could not decide on the performer of the main female role. Of all the applicants, she most liked the 21-year-old sophomore of LGITMiK Marina Neyelova, but she had no experience of filming at all, besides, she was by nature very shy and lost in front of the cameras. The assistant director noticed her confusion and advised her to open up and show what she was capable of. Later Neyolova recalled: "".
Her candidacy was opposed not only by Oleg Dal, but also by the entire artistic council. Upon learning of this, the actor changed his anger to mercy and defended the debutante. Georgy Shtil, who played the princess's bodyguard, said: "".
When the actors were approved, the director began filming, warning Neelova: "" At first, the actress did not understand what Kosheverova saw as a danger, but at the first meeting with Dal it became clear to her why hundreds of girls were losing their heads from this unremarkable, at first look, the actor: "". Dahl's attitude towards Neelova changed with the beginning of filming. Subsequently, they not only starred together, but also became friends.
When the film premiered on March 2, 1970, there was no overcrowding in cinemas - there were so many people willing that the controllers had to install additional chairs along the walls. And at the Venice International Film Festival "Old, Old Tale" was awarded a diploma.
The film debut of Marina Neyolova turned out to be very successful, but for this she had to make excuses at the theater institute - because of the filming, she missed almost a whole year of study. To be allowed to return to her course, Neelova asked forgiveness from both the teachers and classmates - otherwise they could all decide that she was chasing fame, that she was driven by vanity, although this was not the case. Her apology was accepted, she was returned to the course, but as a result she was still punished - she was the only one from the course to receive a “four” in acting, all the others had “fives”. Fortunately, this did not become an obstacle to her further film career, and the role of the princess became one of the most beloved in her entire filmography.
But her partner could play a lot more roles in the movie: The ruined talent of Oleg Dahl.
