Why Britney Spears has no right to control her own life

She became famous as a teenager and at the age of 17 she signed her first contract. Today Britney Spears earns an annual income of several tens of millions of dollars, but at the same time she has no right to dispose of her own money. In addition, she does not have the opportunity to freely visit friends or get married, and her father exercises full control over the life of the 39-year-old performer, and her mother is trying very hard to get her share of her daughter's property.

The talented daughter of simple parents

It seems that from childhood she lived as her parents wanted. Neither their first-born Brian nor their youngest daughter Jamie Lynn were given as much attention as Britney. James and Lynn Spears were ordinary people who had nothing to do with show business. The head of the family had experience as a cook and construction worker, and his wife was a teacher.

But Britney, at the age of three, began to engage in rhythmic gymnastics, classes in a dance studio were soon added, a year later she began to attend a theater group. She also sang in the children's church choir, took part in children's talent shows and song competitions. At the age of eight, charming little Britney Lynn Spears brought to the casting in the famous "Mickey Mouse Club". But the club's management advised the mother to give her daughter the opportunity to grow up a little and return to the casting in two years.

Nevertheless, the casting director introduced the little performer to agent Nancy Carson, who recommended that Britney's mother enroll her in a professional performing arts school immediately. Britney Spears played her first professional role in the Broadway musical Ruthless! in 1991, later participated in several more productions, the Star Search TV show and starred in commercials. Since December 1992, she starred in the Mickey Mouse Club, and after the club closed in 1996, she returned from New York to Mississippi.

Britney Spears soon signed her first contract with Jive Records. She was invented not only the image of an innocent girl, but also forced to sing in a voice that was not her own. According to the producers, Britney Spears' soprano was too similar in timbre to Christina Aguilera, and they wanted to avoid comparisons, so Britney had to sing in a thin, childish voice.

No right to refuse

It seems that ever since, Britney Spears' life and work have been under constant pressure. She no longer belonged to herself. She was not allowed to release an acoustic album in 2006 due to possible inconsistency with the usual repertoire.

As it turned out, she was not entitled to a vacation either, even when Britney asked for it. She recorded three albums one after another, with each of which she went on tour, and dreamed of a break for at least six months. But Britney was forced to return to the studio and start working on a new disc followed by a new tour.

Already at that time, fans began to worry about the state of the singer, because in the songs of the idol they heard a cry for help. The composition "Overprotected" reached the first lines of the charts, and its name in Russian translates as "Overly patronized".

And in the video, addressed to Justin Timberlake, with whom Britney had already parted for two years, it seems, all the unspoken pain of the performer was contained. Or a mystical prophecy that was soon reflected in her life.

Care or shackles

Constant tension and excessive fatigue, as expected, led to a breakdown. The innocent girl, which Britney Spears was positioned by the producers, snapped. She had problems with drugs, she began to demonstratively protest against everything at once: a haircut, a walk in the nude, a conflict with the paparazzi and treatment in a rehab.

James Spears took care of his daughter after Britney had a nervous breakdown. For just one year, during which she, after voluntarily signing all the papers, had no right to make any decisions regarding her personal life and career. From that moment on, she had to get her father's permission for everything: driving a car and dating her own children, relationships with men and voting in elections. Naturally, she also lost the right to manage finances.

But the temporary restriction in rights has been going on for 12 years and all Britney's attempts to free herself from custody have so far been unsuccessful. The father is in complete control of his daughter's life, and her mother … She also settled down quite well, having received a very decent fee for publishing a book about the details of Britney Spears' life, which she herself would hardly want to make public. And not so long ago, Lynn Spears decided to sue herself for the right to dispose of her daughter's money by submitting a corresponding petition.

Freedom Britney

When one of Britney Spears' few friends, Andrew Galleri, published a letter written by the singer asking to be made public, the singer's fans were seriously concerned about the fate of the idol. And they launched a #FreeBritney flash mob on the network, demanding that she be given the right to control her own life.

The letter, written in a third person, talks about excessive custody on the part of Britney's parents, about the manipulation of her life, which led to a divorce from Kevin Federline and the subsequent loss of custody of the children. The singer's indignation ends with a forced hospitalization in a rehab, and she did not and does not have the right to dispose of her own money, life and career on her own.

At the same time, the singer's father calls the flash mob in defense of Britney Spears a conspiracy theory and believes that his daughter cannot control herself, and therefore needs constant care. He stated: “All these conspiracy theorists know nothing. The world has no idea. The California court has to decide what's best for my daughter. This is nobody's business. I love my daughter. I love all my children. But this is our business. This is everyone's personal business."

Fans and many colleagues of the performer strongly disagree with this and frankly say that no person in the world deserves such an attitude as Britney Spears. But while the debate on the singer's right to freedom continues on the network, her father's custody over her has been extended, at least until February 2021.

The singer, however, does not intend to give up. She began to pave the way for the removal of her father from custody of her, attorney Britney Spears is demanding that the next trial be open to the public despite her father's protests. Britney demands that her finances be managed by the independent company Bessemer Trust Co, and she herself is reinstated.

Britney Spears is not the only star deprived of custody of her own children. Unfortunately, star status does not guarantee the title of a good parent. Celebrities who were deprived of the opportunity to raise their sons and daughters were convinced of this by their own example.
