In the 90s, Andrei Gubin was considered the main hitmaker of the country: his compositions "Tramp Boy", "Liza", "Night" and others sounded literally from every iron. Needless to say, the fan girls did not give a pass to the handsome guy and hung up the walls with posters depicting an idol. And then Gubin simply disappeared at the peak of fame, without explaining anything to anyone. For many years, fans could not understand why the pop idol decided to leave the stage: health problems, addictions or psychological trauma? What actually happened?
Way to success
Andrey Gubin was born in 1974 in Ufa. True, at birth he received the surname Klementyev. The fact is that the mother of the future singer was married to Valery Klementyev. But soon the family broke up, and the woman married Viktor Gubin. Therefore, the pop idol chose his stepfather's surname as his stage name, which, in his opinion, was more euphonic.
The boy has already gone to school in Moscow, where his family has moved. But at first Andrei did not dream of the stage, he was much more attracted to sports. He played football and made great strides in this field, but after breaking his leg, he had to give up the dream of a professional career.
Then Gubin began to look for himself in creativity: he wrote poetry and music. By the way, he composed his main hit "Tramp Boy" at the age of 12. And he released his first album "I am a bum" three years later. True, the disc was released in a limited edition of 200 copies, so to speak, “for our own people”. But again, the teenager did not see himself as a singer in the future, but was preparing to become a journalist. True, he graduated from school with a certificate: teachers, offended by the fact that Andrei wrote an accusatory letter to the Ogonyok magazine about the shortcomings of modern education, refused to issue him a certificate.
However, Gubin was not very upset by this, because soon he appeared in the program "Up to 16 and older." But he got on television by accident: the editor noticed a nice guy who was singing songs near the television center, and invited him to the shooting. However, Andrei did not stay in journalism either. Having decided that the interview taken from Andrei Makarevich turned out to be unsuccessful, the young man decided to devote himself to music.
The future pop idol entered the vocal department of Gnesinka, but soon he was expelled for systematic absenteeism. However, already in 1994, Gubin performed at the "Golden Autumn of Slavutich" festival. There, a fateful meeting took place: the talented performer was noticed by Leonid Agutin, who offered to make an arrangement for the songs.
Career peak
A year later, the singer's debut album, "Tramp Boy", was released, which sold over 500 thousand copies. However, even before the release of the record, the whole country knew Gubin's main hit by heart.
Andrey's finest hour has come: his compositions were played on the radio, and clips were shown on television. However, there is an opinion that the singer himself could not have achieved such success if not for the help of his stepfather. By that time, Viktor Gubin had become a successful businessman, so he spared no expense in promoting a loved one. Indeed, in those days, only compositions of stars of the first magnitude (such as Sofia Rotaru or Alla Pugacheva, for example) were broadcast “for free”.
How popular Gubin was can be judged by the fact that he easily collected stadiums, and the fans followed on his heels. The organizers of the tour even had to hire additional security, because the fans even overturned the limousine on which their idol drove.
Then the first bells appeared that Andrey had contracted a "star" disease. Indeed, only recently he was an ordinary guy, and became the idol of the whole country. People who worked with him at that time recall that Gubin began to behave arrogantly and capriciously. For example, he could not go on stage just because there is no mood. Soon, the artist released 4 more albums. They weren't as popular as The Tramp Boy, but they sold well nonetheless. Gubin toured a lot, wrote songs not only for himself, but also for other performers. So, the hit "La-la-la", which was performed by Zhanna Friske, was composed by Andrey. At one time, the singer helped the graduates of the "Star Factory". But in 2005 he gave his last show and suddenly disappeared.
So why did he leave the stage?
It turns out that Gubin not only decided to "quit" with creativity, but completely leave the country for a while. True, the reasons for this were weighty. Only a few years later, the artist admitted that he was diagnosed with "left-sided prosopalgia of the face." Andrei assured that he was in such pain that he could not even sing, but he could not really talk. The insidious ailment, according to the singer, appeared due to chronic fatigue and stress. However, relatives of the performer are sure that he invented the disease himself. After all, the doctors did not reveal any physical anomalies in the body of the young man. In addition, in 2007, the stepfather of the star died, who put a lot of effort into making Andrei popular. Gubin took this loss hard. And five years later, his mother died, which finally knocked down the singer.
For a long time, there were persistent rumors that the performer was drunk and was taking drugs. However, despite the fact that he still does not give concerts, he appears on various talk shows from time to time and claims that he leads a healthy lifestyle.
However, Andrey every now and then promises to return to the stage, but so far he is delaying this moment. But the last song "Tenderness" he wrote 11 years ago. Many producers, including the creator of the legendary "Tender May" Andrei Razin, offered cooperation to Gubin, but he did not want to work with any of them. However, music critics are sure that the singer can easily “ride” on old hits, giving concerts in the style of “90s Disco”.
By the way, immediately after leaving the stage, Gubin sold almost all of his property, leaving only an apartment in the capital. It is known that he does not work anywhere, and his only source of income is royalties (songs of the idol of the 90s are heard daily on the radio). According to Andrei himself, he devotes a lot of time to health, does breathing exercises and rides a bicycle, but the "illness" does not recede. Friends confirm the version that Gubin has psychological problems. According to them, the singer practically does not communicate with anyone, preferring to remain a recluse, and it is on his birthday that he turns off the phone.
Little is known about the singer's personal life. He has never been married. And his very first and greatest love was the same girl Lisa, to whom he dedicated the hit of the same name. But the relationship came to naught due to the constant employment of the star. In the late 90s, Andrei met with the soloist of the Caramel group, Lyusya Kobevko. He wrote the album "Only you" for her. It is also known that Gubin was friends with Zhanna Friske, but the artist did not consider him as a potential young man, but the performer himself hoped for more.
Despite the fact that the artist avoids publicity, photos sometimes appear on social networks, which are published by fans who accidentally met on Gubin Street. True, now it is difficult to recognize the idol of all the girls of the 90s in an aged singer. By the way, in the summer of 2020, Andrei for the first time in a long time gave a concert in one of the capital's clubs. Who knows, maybe the star will still dare to return to the stage.
