Today, when, it would seem, a modern person can no longer surprise, photographs with Salvador Dali arouse genuine interest. The surrealist loved to shock the audience, thereby attracting attention to himself. In 1955, a British journalist came to his villa to take a series of photographs with the artist. It was a wonderful "surreal day" with Salvador Dali. And each photo turned out to be as outstanding as the genius himself.
In 1930, 26-year-old Salvador Dali was kicked out of the house by his own father. He could no longer tolerate the antics of an eccentric son. A few months later, the artist sold his painting "The Old Age of William Tell" to the Viscount de Noaille, and with the proceeds for it of 20,000 francs, he bought a former fishing house near the village of Port Lligat on the Costa Brava.
For the next 40 years, Salvador Dali and his wife Gala bought houses next door, creating a stunning villa. Everything on it was done in the spirit of a surrealist. A lot of labyrinths, extensions, transitions, decorated with works of genius. After long travels, Dali and Gala always returned to the Costa Brava in search of inspiration and relaxation. Dali admired this place, filling it with energy and inspiring to create another masterpiece. When his beloved Gala died, Dali left his villa forever.
In 1955, the British journalist and photographer Charles Hewitt visited the house of Salvador Dali. He asked the artist to pose for him for a piece in Picture Post magazine. Dali gladly agreed. He never missed the opportunity to effectively appear before the public. This series of photographs Hewitt called "One day with Salvador Dali" ("One day with Salvador Dali").
The main muse, wife and inhabitant of the villa in Port Lligat was Elena Dyakonova, better known as Gala. Dali loved Gala so much that he allowed her to have as many lovers as she wanted.
