Reading - the great luxury that humanity has. As much as contemporary visual art strives to fill the entire living space, there is simply no alternative for books. An immense world of fantasy and a deep world of knowledge - this is what the book gives to each of us. Erasmus of Rotterdam said: "My homeland is where my library is." Literally echoing the thoughts of the great scientist, the British-Iraqi construction company AMBS announced a construction project public library, which will not be equal in the whole world.

No matter how much debate is going on about the advantages and disadvantages of printed publications compared to e-books, there will still be those who like to flip through printed pages. The desire to revive the tradition of public libraries is also notable for the fact that in Iraq, since the 1970s, public "reading rooms" have fallen into disrepair, and the new library will be the first to be built in the country in almost half a century. The library is slated to be located in Baghdad, in the heart of the City of Youth, and will be an excellent opportunity for Iraqis to make reading a good habit.

Of course, the library will meet the needs of modern readers: here they will not find the usual dusty shelves with outdated literature. It is planned that the library fund will contain more than 3 million books, rare manuscripts and periodicals, a computer room and halls will be equipped for holding all kinds of events.

The real highlight of the library is the unusual roof: letters will be applied on it, which add up to the word “read” in Arabic Kufi. The curved edges of the roof and the distinctive teardrop shape are to become the library's trademark. It will house the world's largest single-span reading room, and the roof will be equipped with solar panels to supply the building with electricity.
