Keng Lai (Keng Lye) creates incredibly realistic images of aquatic creatures such as octopus, carp and shrimp. His work is even more surprising in that the artist needs only paint, transparent resin and a sense of perspective to create them.
The course of his work is as follows: the artist takes a small vessel, puts on its bottom a thinnest layer of transparent resin, then paints a part of the animal on this layer with acrylic paint, then puts varnish again, and paint on top of it. This continues until Keng Lai layer by layer will not "collect" the volumetric image of the animal.
Work Kenga Laya give in to classification with difficulty, but the most adequate definition of this direction in art is, perhaps, "Volumetric painting" … We have to talk about a separate direction for a reason. It is worth remembering at least the work of the Japanese artist Ryusuki Fukahori, who used a similar technique.
Personal invention Kenga Laya is the introduction of a "new dimension" in three-dimensional painting: in his latest works, animals are shown a little above the surface of the water. The artist made this discovery almost by accident, and it inspired him to further search for new expressive means.
Every job Kenga Laya - this is incredibly painstaking work, but its result justifies any expectations. It is worth noting that the artist loves to place his animals in traditional oriental tableware, and in addition, chopsticks, kettles and other kitchen utensils often appear in photographs of completed works. The artist himself does not give any explanation for this fact, leaving room for the humor and imagination of the viewer.
