On November 2, the popular French film actress and singer Marie Laforêt did not become. In the 1960s. in the West, she became famous thanks to her roles in the films "The Girl with Golden Eyes", "They Followed the Soldiers", "Leviathan", etc. In the USSR, her name was not known to the general public, but the melody of her hit "Manchester and Liverpool" was absolutely that's all - for many years it sounded during the weather forecast on the Vremya program. Her songs were performed by Edita Piekha, Muslim Magomayev and Lev Leshchenko, and she herself remained a mystery to Soviet listeners …

Her real name is Maitena Marie Brigitte Dumenac (the name Maitena comes from the Basque word for “beloved”, “dear”). She was born in France a month after the outbreak of World War II, which has become one of the worst memories of her childhood. Maitena's father was captured by the Nazis, and what she herself had to endure came to mind only many years later. In 1998, in an interview, the artist admitted that she was sexually abused as a child, and her mind blocked these memories for a long time.

At the age of 20, Maitena won a song contest with the symbolic name "The Birth of a Star", to which she got by accident - she decided to come instead of her sick sister. She also started singing by accident - they say that after a long illness in 1964 she was prescribed an unusual treatment - a course of music therapy, during which she had to constantly hum life-affirming folk songs and learn to accompany herself on the guitar.

In the same 1959, she auditioned at the theater, where she was noticed by director René Clement, who was looking for a heroine for his new film "In the bright sun" - the adaptation of the novel "The Talented Mr. Ripley". Maitena's partner on the set was Alain Delon, whom she immediately disliked - the girl called him a "dummy", he seemed to her arrogant, devoid of a sense of humor and intelligence. But the result of their joint work turned out to be triumphant - the debutante suddenly became a movie star in France. After that, the directors bombarded her with new proposals. And with Alain Delon, she starred in several more films.

In 1978, the artist moved to Switzerland, received citizenship, and later opened her own art gallery. At home, she was reproached for moving to Switzerland because of more loyal tax conditions, but she herself explained her decision by the desire to get away from the "unhealthy" Parisian life and raise children in a more relaxed and supportive atmosphere. In this country, she spent the remaining years. In the 1980s-1990s.
