On July 17, the press service of the Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts said that this institution had received three graphic works created by Lovis Corinth, a German artist. These works of art were donated to the Kaliningrad Museum by the private Walchensee Museum, which is located in Bavaria.
Visitors will be able to see the presented works for the first time on Lovis Corinth's birthday on July 21. All three works will take pride of place in the exposition, which bears the name Kaliningrad - Konigsberg: A Bridge over Time. This exhibition is permanent.
All the works of the German artist, which were obtained by the Kaliningrad Museum of Fine Arts, are etchings, a separate type of engraving. Among the donated works included an engraving titled "In the Studio", a work titled "In the Artist's Studio", which were created by a German master in 1919. Another work with the title "Self-portrait" was created by him in 1918.
Such a gift to the Kaliningrad Museum was made with the desire to establish a strong friendship, which will contribute to the development of the project to restore the house in Gvardeysk, where the artist Corinth was born. The project to restore this house is planned to be implemented in the next 2020. The German side speaks of its readiness to support this project, is ready to help with filling the house, which will become the Lovis Corinth house-museum, with valuable exhibits. Such works will help make the Kaliningrad region very attractive for tourists from among fans of Corinth's work, and in general, art connoisseurs.
The artist Lovis Corinth was born in 1858 in the city of Tapiau, which is now called Gvardeysk. His family owned a farm and had a tannery. He studied art at the Konigsberg Academy of Arts. Throughout his life, this master has created more than a thousand paintings, a huge number of graphics, drawings and watercolors. He also wrote articles for various print media related to art, wrote books. Most of the works of this German master are in private collections, some of his works can be seen in museums and galleries in Germany and other countries.
