Video: 8 celebrities who violated decency at Buckingham Palace
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
It seems that the very atmosphere of the official residence of British monarchs contributes to the fact that visitors involuntarily straighten their backs and behave almost perfectly. But sometimes even celebrities who visit Buckingham Palace have an irresistible urge to "play pranks". Later, with some degree of pride, they admit that they allowed themselves to violate decency in this particular place.
Olivia Colman and Ed Sinclair
The English actress, who plays the Queen in Netflix's The Crown, recently admitted herself that while attending a charity event at Buckingham Palace, her husband, lawyer and writer Ed Sinclair, stole a roll of paper from the toilet as a souvenir. However, neither the Oscar-winning actress herself, nor her husband saw anything reprehensible in this, since they openly confessed to petty theft.
Denise Van Outen
The actress and TV presenter was forced to apologize after confessing to stealing an ashtray and a tissue box from the royal residence. It happened back in 1998, and Denise Van Outen explained her act by the fact that it was funny and fun. True, later the actress sent the stolen things back, attaching a stuffed camel and a note to them as a gift for the queen: “Sorry, ma'am! I didn't mean to offend you at all!"
Emma Bunton
Known as Baby Spice, a member of the popular group Spice Girls did not steal anything, but allowed herself a little innocent prank. During a speech at the palace on the occasion of the golden anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Emma Bunton only allowed herself to frivolously pinch the sign hanging on the ladies' dress.
Pierce Morgan
The host of the Good Morning Britain program once confessed that he could rightfully be called a serial criminal, because at Pierce Morgan's home he had a whole collection of toilet paper, which he "expropriated" from the homes of celebrities. Next to a black monogrammed roll, grabbed from the home of his colleague, TV presenter and philanthropist Simon Cowell, flaunted toilet paper from the royal residence. But Pierce Morgan did not manage to get hold of a copy of toilet paper from the White House. At that time, the post of US President was held by Barack Obama, and the British presenter was really afraid to end up in prison.
John Lennon
Rock musician and one of the founders of The Beatles once admitted that in 1965 the group was waiting for their performance while participating in a concert at Buckingham Palace. All the participants were so excited that they went to the toilet to smoke a cigarette with marijuana. Later, Lennon's colleague George Harrison denied the friend's words. In his presentation, the whole team really smoked in the toilet, but these were the most ordinary cigarettes. However, it seems that at that time visitors to the royal residence did not have the right to smoke in the palace at all.
Robby Williams
The former Take That member and hit singer Angels actually takes pride in smoking marijuana while at the main residence of British monarchs. He admitted this in an interview with The Sun in 2017, but chose to remain silent about exactly when he allowed himself to "relax" in the palace. Journalists also suggested that the incident could have occurred in 2012, during a concert dedicated to the celebration of the diamond anniversary of Elizabeth II.
Stephen Fry
For the actor, writer and friend of Prince William, Buckingham Palace was just one of the places where he used cocaine. In his memoirs, Stephen Fry wrote about taking drugs in various royal palaces, as well as in the House of Lords, the House of Commons and the BBC television center. At the same time, the writer himself admits that by his act he defamed the reputation of magnificent palaces and noble institutions.
Palace gaze
Despite numerous claims of impartial behavior within the walls of Buckingham Palace, former spokesman for the Queen Dickie Arbiter argues that many "confessions" of celebrities seem ridiculous to those who are involved in the maintenance of the palace or work in it.
For example, what is the point of taking toilet paper out of the residence if it is no different from what is sold in every store? There are no distinctive signs or monograms on it. Or how it was possible to steal an ashtray in 1998, if at that time Buckingham Palace had long been declared smoke-free, respectively, and there were no facilities for smokers.
It seems to the former press secretary that such statements are made solely with the aim of drawing attention to their person.
The reputation of Elizabeth II can be called ideal: the British adore her, she herself was not involved in scandals, and, most importantly, she stands guard over the interests and traditions of the monarchy. And the queen demands the same from her relatives. But we must not forget that even those in whose veins blue blood flows, in fact, are ordinary people. And no matter how much the “main grandmother” tries to restrain her family members, they still sometimes get into unpleasant situations and give loud news feeds.
