Queen Elizabeth II is famous not only for her elegance and sophistication of manners, but also for the fact that she is the oldest English monarch in history, and now she is also the second longest stay on the British throne! The other day the country noted Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee - 60 years since her accession to the throne! The celebration lasted four days, during which time the British managed to amaze the whole world with the beauty, pomp and scale of the action!
The anniversary celebration kicked off with cannon fireworks in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast! The program turned out to be quite intense: on the first day, about 150 thousand people gathered in Derby to witness the traditional holiday races.
And the very next day the Queen was saluted by the English flotilla on the River Thames. Thousands of spectators watched with bated breath at the river parade, which was attended by restored historic ships from the 1940 Dunkirk operation. The highlight of the procession was the ship with bells specially cast for the holiday. In response to their chime, the bells of the churches located on the Thames embankment rang.
The culmination of the celebration was a festive concert, which took place in central London in front of Buckingham Palace, and was also broadcast on huge screens installed in different parts of the capital. On the stage, among other performers, the "knights" of the music world shone - Elton John, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney and Cliff Richard. The event ended with a speech by Prince Charles in honor of his mother, as well as the solemn lighting of the last of 4,500 torches, which in Britain and the Commonwealth countries celebrated the Queen's anniversary.
On the last solemn day, the program was very eventful: Elizabeth took part in a prayer service in St. Paul's Cathedral, Londoners and guests of the city were pleased with the solemn flight of military aircraft from the Second World War, as well as fighters from the Red Arrows aerobatic team of the British Air Force. The celebration ended with a massive fireworks display!
Seeing such beauty, it's hard to imagine that the artists Robert Graves and Didier Madoc-Jones imagine London in a completely different way. Not so long ago, they created a series of post-apocalyptic postcards in which this city looks by no means so radiant …

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip: I am the Queen of Great Britain and you are my King

For which the most charming Queen of Great Britain received the title of "Honorary Citizen of Volgograd": Queen Mother Elizabeth I
Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon ascended the throne on the eve of the hardest events for the world of World War II, but in almost all the photographs the Queen smiles. The subjects adored her, and Hitler called her "one of the most dangerous women in Europe", since the smiling queen always knew how to quickly and, if necessary, tauntly answer a difficult question, how to inspire or calm people. Interestingly, in her youth, Elizabeth was afraid of only one thing: she never wanted to be a queen
