- this is a video installation Javier Perez with the participation of the ballerina Amelie Segarraperforming an incredible dance on the lid of a piano, in pointe shoes, to which are attached sharp kitchen knives. Ballerinas are often associated with beauty, elegance and graceful forms. But this time, Perez decided to demonstrate to the public the dark side of this art and such qualities as dedication and violence against oneself, though with the preservation of all the beautiful components.
The mere thought of someone dancing in potentially dangerous shoes is absolutely astounding. The shots in which Amelie tries to keep her balance are simultaneously captivating and intimidating. The performance, which constantly keeps the audience energized, culminates the moment the dancer approaches the edge of the piano, leaving long scratches on it.
The art of ballerina balancing ultimately ends up in emotional breakdown. Amelie screams in an attempt to relieve tension, both physical and mental. Perhaps this performance is a model for overcoming human fears on the path to perfection, since very often dancers have to make incredible efforts on themselves in order to reach new heights.
Amelie demonstrates a clear internal struggle, the perception of which is enhanced by the emptiness and dark scenery of the theater in comparison with the "white swan" on the piano.
When watching this video, you involuntarily ask yourself: "Is this a ballerina or a doll from a music box?"
The blowing of a photographer and a dancer is a win-win combination. Streams of Sand is an interesting series of works by American photo artist Evelina Pentcheva, for whose idea she invited her friend, dancer Anibal Diaz.
