Multicolored cardboard for the artist - what plasticine is for the sculptor. On the one hand, nothing is simpler and clearer, more accessible and more familiar, but on the other hand, you need to be a real professional, a talented author in order to build something worthwhile, really outstanding out of this nondescript material. Young French artist, textile designer named Maud Vantours all this succeeds. Her multi-layered works of colored cardboard are amazing and beautiful. The work of Mo Vantour cannot be called paper paintings, but you can hardly call them sculptures either. Most likely, these are three-dimensional paintings made in a special technique, which is both simple and requires significant skill and experience. Mo Vantour stacks colored cardboard in layers, in a stack, alternating the colors of the pages as she intended. And then with a paper knife gives this stack the necessary shape.
Sometimes the artist limits herself only to adjusting the edges of these multi-layer structures, and at times she cuts them both outside and inside, turning the sheets of cardboard into colorful lace, and then shifting them so that the lower layers are visible in the slots - a play with color, light and shape is obtained. … The combination of colors, the amount of material and the careful thoughtfulness of each volumetric painting by Mo Vantour make her layered work look simple and stunning at the same time.
The amazing paper creations of a young French woman made her famous far beyond the borders of her native Paris. The works of Mo Vantour are known both in France and abroad, in galleries and at international exhibitions. She creates various art objects from colored cardboard for Cartier, Guerlain, Lancme, Yves Saint Laurent and other famous brands.
