Video: The most famous phrases from Soviet films that many use every day and do not notice
2024 Author: Richard Flannagan | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-15 23:55
Very often in a conversation we use certain phrases, with a reference to Soviet cinema, but we do not always remember where exactly the phrase, which came by the way, was taken from. The films, so beloved by the audience, have been revised several times and taken apart for quotes, which, however, have long since become an independent cultural property. These phrases have survived more than a decade, but still, when mentioned, they cause a warm smile. Let's remember the most popular and a little forgotten ones.
Moscow does not believe in tears
The film, which won an Oscar, at the time of its creation was regarded as nothing less than a cheap melodrama. The actresses who came to audition for the role of the main character even left after learning some of the details of the upcoming work (for example, bed scenes, although in the modern view this is more likely to cause a smile). Director Vladimir Menshov was not immediately impressed with the script, he only liked the technique that is used for a temporary jump - Katerina sets the alarm clock in her dorm, and wakes up a few years later, in her own apartment, successful, beautiful and with an adult daughter.
The popular screenwriter Jan Fried also contributed to the assessment of the script by Valentin Chernykh; he was also very skeptical about his colleague's work, which also influenced Menshov's opinion. But, the playwright refused to redo the script, and Menshov did not refuse to work, but along the way the script underwent changes, including the characters' remarks became more accurate and profound. And there are a great many of them in the film, many will not even remember that the beloved "Sucked bourgeois swamp" or "the evening ceases to be languid" - this is from the beloved "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears." But the phrase about Georgy Ivanovich, who is also Goga, he is also Gosha, Yuri and Gora are remembered by everyone.
Other phrases from the film are not used so often, but on the other hand, how much wisdom and life experience they have! After all, how subtly it was possible to notice about the look of an unmarried woman, with which, perhaps, every viewer came across, but it never occurred to anyone to formulate this as a feature.
Ivan Vasilievich is changing his profession
Gaidai was churning out hit after hit at that time, and now he had just finished with "Prisoner of the Caucasus", when he decided to take up his old dream - to film Bulgakov. At first he was attracted by the play "Running", but they already managed to take it into work. Therefore Gaidai stopped at the play "Ivan Vasilievich".
The script was written right at the director's house. The author - Vladlen Bakhnov was the director's neighbor, they lived on the same staircase, it was a sin not to take advantage of such convenience and not create a script that would absolutely fit Gaidai, if only because he participated in its creation.
Several decades have passed since the release of the film, and we still readily use phrases that have definitely become part of modern folklore. We insistently demand "the continuation of the banquet", we ourselves do not notice how the joke about "overseas eggplant caviar" breaks down once again. And admiring, we ourselves do not notice how it flies out: “Oh, what a beauty! Whisper!"
The Diamond Arm
Yakov Kosyukovsky and Maurice Slobodskoy have already worked with Gaidai, on the creation of Shurik, "The Diamond Arm" was also created by them, but at first it had a different name - "Smuggler". The script arose for a reason, the reason for its creation was a newspaper article about the transportation of jewelry in plaster, so we can safely say that the film is based on real events.
However, Nikulin (the script was immediately written for him) in the form of a naive simpleton who found himself in the center of a criminal showdown, had to play a much more important role in the political arena. It was even indicated in the film's script application. They say that the Soviet ruble is getting stronger, interest in the country is growing, the flow of tourists is increasing, and along with them are professional smugglers who either bring gold and diamonds into the country or intend to take out money. Nikulin, on the other hand, had to identify the assistance of citizens to law enforcement agencies.
The editor pointed out in the review that these authors always have deep thoughts and true feelings behind comic plots. Leonid Gaidai also acted as the author, who asked him to be considered one of the authors of the script. The script gradually became more adapted, funny and original, the name changed. Episodes describing the life of crooks and thieves were removed by censors and the authors listened to them.
"The Diamond Hand" turned out to be like a cut diamond, otherwise how can one explain the fact that phrases from the film have long become not just winged, but practically folk.
Gentlemen of Fortune
The film has practically nothing to do with the original script, which was written by the aspiring writer Victoria Tokareva. The movie was tentatively titled Repeat Offender. The main character Yevgeny Leonov, for whom the film was written, in the first version was supposed to be a police major, and became a kindergarten teacher. A very unexpected twist and artistic trick.
The script proposal assumed that the best comedic actors would take part in the filming. The application has not even had time to be considered, but the actors have already managed to refuse filming, and for good reasons. Mironov was already busy on the set, and Nikulin did not want to star in a comedic form again. The script was rewritten again for other actors.
A film of such a plan in Soviet times was a very risky undertaking. All the main characters are thieves and repeat offenders, conversations are carried on by a thief. Probably, without the authority of Georgy Daniel, who is not the director, but the artistic director of the film, much would not have been resolved. But, after the script was ready, it was sent to almost all major police departments for review. Changes were made, recommendations were taken into account.
Girls
The comedy of Yuri Chulyukin, filmed during the time of construction brigades, not only praised labor exploits and Komsomol romance, it is a classic melodrama in the spirit of socialist realism. After all, love is built in difficult living conditions, when the main goal was to build communism. The film is based on the story of the same name by Boris Bedny, he was a lumberjack, therefore he knew the whole "kitchen", which is called from the inside.
The story was published in the newspaper and the director realized that this was his future film, the author of the story worked on the script, at the request of the director including more everyday moments and making it brighter.
The film turned out to be funny, but according to the idea it was not, because the application included a movie about the correction of idlers and parasites. Despite this, there is not a single negative character in the film, while all the laws of drama are observed, there are conflicts, clashes of interests and an exciting plot.
Despite the work line, the scriptwriter and director brought to the fore the love relationship of the heroes, which is probably what made the film so popular and beloved. Many phrases have been used in speech for a long time, giving the conversation a special warmth and originality.
Love affair at work
In fact, the film, which is a Soviet classic, is not the first attempt to stage a play called "Co-workers" by Eldar Ryazanov and Emil Braginsky. Together they wrote it in less than a month. She liked the director of the Leningrad Comedy Theater and was staged. Many moments did not coincide with the original, which, of course, angered the authors. In their opinion, the main idea of the play was lost. But the viewer was successful.
"Co-workers" were played in many theaters, in more than 130 and everywhere, giving them a certain vision of their own. Of course, what else is the director for? Eldar Ryazanov decided to restore justice in a completely unexpected way and make a film based on his play. The director's favorite brainchild, a film filled with the impeccable performance of talented actors, legendary phrases and favorite moments that have been revisited for several decades in a row.
What is the main idea of the film and the play, if you dismiss, of course, the important role of the love relationships of the main characters? Attention to colleagues - those people with whom we spend most of our time, whether we like it or not. After all, even the slightest attention and care can change the life of another person.
Love and pigeons
The play by Vladimir Gurkin was also first staged in the theater, after a couple of years Vladimir Menshov wanted to film it and the author created the script. In such a simple way, the film was born, which fell in love with the viewer and became one of the classics of Soviet cinema.
The Kuzyakins' family is real and lived next door to the author, but they had not three, but four children. But the head of the family really went to rest according to the program and there he became carried away by another woman, who became a test for their seemingly strong family. That real lady, however, did not come to the family with a showdown, but the woman was very charismatic. But about the pigeons - the sheer truth.
The neighbors were also real, original and bright, there are such heroes in almost every village, therefore their presence in the film is very organic. By the way, the family was not aware that a film was being made about their life story, the scriptwriter did not tell them about it. The Russian village, with its originality, is already full of legendary phrases that richly spice up speech. Therefore, the film turned out to be rich in catch phrases that are still alive.
This is only a small part of what came into speech through Soviet films, thanks to the ingenious work of directors and screenwriters, actors who were so convincing. Many phrases are just an excuse to revise your favorite works of cinema, by the way, especially attentive people notice inconsistencies in films, which rather demonstrate that they, too, were made by living people who have the right to make small mistakes.
