Give me your hand, grandfather …
Give me your hand, grandfather …

There are poems that sink into the soul after having heard them only once. Such a poem is the lines written by Leonid Filatov shortly before his death and became a dedication to his granddaughter Olya. Lines about what a person should live for.

Leonid Filatov is remembered and loved from the films "The Crew", "Forgotten Melody for the Flute" and many others. But his work in the last years of his life is unique - the program "To be remembered", which tells about the great actors of the past who were undeservedly forgotten. However, many believe that it was this work that brought the actor to death. After all, passing other people's tragedies through his heart, he sincerely sympathized.

The programs were actually "death knell" for the actors who played the tragedy of their lives, forgotten, gone … Learning their stories, the actor often cried - in general, did not feel sorry for himself emotionally. “I was warned that roaming the graves is not good for my health,” Filatov recalled. "But someone had to remember these people."

In August 1993, work was interrupted. The actor was recovering from a stroke, but then again experienced a critical condition and almost died. As he himself later recalled, his life was saved … by a little granddaughter. From the words of the actor, the editor of the program "To Remember" Irina Simushina told us about this case.

“This period was insanely difficult for him,” she recalls. - Leon said that after the operation, his granddaughter Olya saved his life. She came to his hospital all the time. And so they went for a walk in some kind of hospital garden. She was small, she walked slowly and kept saying: "Grandpa, wait, wait!" This is "wait!" he was saved. Because in difficult moments of illness, this word sounded to him like “Don't go away!” Leonid Filatov dedicated his last poem to her - his granddaughter Olya.

A unique video from the personal archive of the Filatov family allows you to hear how the poet himself reads this poem.
