This series was released 10 years ago, and since then it has been called one of the best films of the early 21st century. Both viewers and critics give TV series "Liquidation" very high marks. But even those who know the contents of all the episodes by heart have no idea how many interesting moments are left behind the scenes of the film.

Many see the guarantee of the incredible popularity of the series in the successful selection of actors, first of all, the leading actor - Vladimir Mashkov. Now it is really difficult to imagine another David Gotsman, and after all, this role was originally written for an actor of a completely different type. Director Sergei Ursulyak later said: "".

For the role, Vladimir Mashkov prepared very seriously: he lived in Odessa for almost a year, communicated with veterans of the Odessa police and with representatives of the thieves' world. He lost 20 kg, cut his hair under a "half box" and for a long time after filming continued to talk in the same way as his hero. Svetlana Kryuchkova, who played Aunt Pesya, said that he was "".

Svetlana Kryuchkova herself in her role also felt like a fish in water, although she doubted whether she could take part in the filming. That year was very difficult for her - the actress underwent two operations and clinical death. Aunt Pesya in her performance was so convincing that the director even increased the number of episodes with her and her son Emik. When the son first saw her in makeup, he did not even recognize her, but on the streets the actress was mistaken for a local and asked for directions. One day she went to Privoz. While the actress was trying on shoes, a mobile phone was stolen from her bag. She was not taken aback and, in the voice of Aunt Pesya, shouted to the whole market: “” A few minutes later the phone was thrown into her friend's bag. Odessans laughed: "".

But for the actor Andrei Krasko, the role of Fima in "Liquidation" was the last work. During the filming, he died of a heart attack, and the episodes in which he had already managed to act were re-filmed with another actor, Sergei Makovetsky.

The film was filmed based on real events: in 1946, the disgraced Marshal Zhukov was indeed sent to Odessa to restore order and fight criminal gangs. However, this is perhaps the only reliable fact, all other vicissitudes are fiction, such as the raid during a concert by Leonid Utesov or the rebellion of the “forest brothers”. The song "By the Black Sea", which sounds in the film, was written 5 years after the events described.

Experts pay attention to the fact that in the series in general there are many deviations from the historical truth. But for the director, the truth of the characters was much more important, as well as the recreation of the atmosphere of the legendary city. However, Ursulyak was accused of "constriction and pretense" in the depiction of Odessa residents and their dialect, which, according to critics, looked too anecdotal and caricatured. Others object to this: the film was filmed in the border zone between myth and history, so it cannot be called either historical or fantastic. It was created "based on" historical events.

At the Odessa Film Festival in 2010, for his role in "Liquidation", Vladimir Mashkov was awarded a diploma from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the badge "Honorary Worker of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine". In addition, for this role he received TEFI-2008 and the Golden Eagle. A year after the release of the film, a bronze sculpture was erected in honor of the post-war police officers near the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Odessa. Local residents immediately called it a monument to David Gotsman, and for tourists it has become a real place of pilgrimage. True, in the very first months someone stole one of the bronze pigeons.

The image of David Gotsman, according to the director, was collective, but many old-timers of Odessa recognized in him David Kurlyand - the legendary Odessa criminal investigation officer.
