June 13 marks 61 years of the famous theater and film actor Sergey Makovetsky, who is today called one of the highest paid artists. Popularity came to him quite late - for a long time in the theater he got only episodic roles, and he began to actively act in films only after 30. He does not regret the unplayed roles, moreover, he often rejects the directors' proposals: some topics for him are taboo …
Sergei Makovetsky was born in Kiev in 1958. He did not know his father - he left his family a few months before his birth, but Sergei always had a very close relationship with his mother. During his school years, he dreamed of becoming a doctor - but once in a school theater, a teacher invited him to play in a play based on Ostrovsky's play "The Forest". Since then, he dreamed of an acting profession, but he did not succeed in immediately entering the Kiev Theater Institute - he received a "deuce" for an essay. Failure did not stop him - he got a job at the Lesya Ukrainka Theater as a stage worker, and a year later he recovered to conquer Moscow.
However, even then he was disappointed: Konstantin Raikin, who was a member of the selection committee, interrupted Makovetsky, not listening to the end, and advised him to leave his dreams of acting forever - they say, his chances are negligible. But at the Shchukin school, they believed in his talent and accepted Alla Kazanskaya into the course. After graduation, he got into the troupe of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, but for 10 years Makovetsky got only episodic roles.
The first success came to him only in the late 1980s. - then for his role in the play "Zoyka's apartment" Makovetsky received the prize of the festival "Moscow theater spring". In the 1990s, when many actors were left without work and were forced to leave their profession, Sergei Makovetsky gained real popularity. At first it happened on the stage, when he became the leading actor of the Roman Viktyuk theater, and then in the cinema. In the late 1980s. he was remembered by the audience for the films "The Life of Klim Samgin", "Initiate" and "Mother", in the early 1990s there were "Patriotic Comedy" and "Makarov" by Vladimir Khotinenko. And thanks to the films of Kira Muratova and Alexei Balabanov, Makovetsky began to be called one of the best actors in Russia.
After working in the films "It Doesn't Hurt", "72 Meters", "Twelve", "Zhmurki" and "Liquidation" Makovetsky became one of the most demanded artists. His creative range is so wide that, it would seem, any image is subject to him. However, the actor deliberately refuses many roles. He often had to play villains and antiheroes, but he believes that agreeing to embody the images of criminals and notorious scoundrels on screens means promoting them and making viewers understand them and feel sympathy for them. It is for this reason that he categorically refused to play the maniac Chikatilo: "".
There are such roles that Makovetsky refuses without hesitation: "". He never changes his principles - he considers this to be the key to success and the only way not to lose self-respect: "".
Many directors who worked with Makovetsky fell silent when he went to the set, and gave him complete freedom of action. Alexey Balabanov, who shot the actor in five of his films, said: "".
Sergei Makovetskiy does not hide the fact that he was glad of prizes, awards and titles, but he considers "fanfare" the most difficult test in his profession. He has already learned to calmly relate to praise and just as calmly perceive criticism in his address: "". Perhaps this is another indicator of professionalism. Despite his success and demand, he never ceases to doubt himself, which means that he can move on.
Today, it is difficult to imagine someone else in the role of Fima, but few viewers know that Makovetsky got this role as a result of tragic circumstances: What's left behind the scenes of the series "Liquidation".
