Millions of women were crazy about him, and with dozens of them he had affairs, but at the same time he called Rome every evening to talk to his wife. She was not at all the most beautiful or the smartest, but one day she made a choice for herself that she wanted to be Marcello's legal wife, and not her ex. - the famous artist admitted. -

Marcello Vincenzo Domenico Mastroianni was born in a small Italian commune and never came to the homeland of his ancestors, but his mother, Ida Idelson, was from Minsk. Her family left their hometown in search of a better life in 1906, first to Germany and then to Italy, where Ida met Ottone Mastroianni. In 1924 little Marcello was born to her.

There was never enough money in the family, especially since the childhood of the future star fell on the difficult pre-war years, so the boy, from the age of 10, had to earn money where he could: a loader, a builder, a draftsman, an assistant accountant and an extra in a movie crowd. He especially liked the last work, so after the war, Marcello began to play with pleasure in an amateur theater. But, however, only in his free time, because the young man dreamed of the profession of an architect. He returned to the university, which he was forced to leave temporarily during the war years, and did not even think about any cinema.

However, at one of the student performances, a young and prominent guy was noticed by the famous director Luchino Visconti. He himself later said that playing Mastroianni on stage was simply disgusting, but something in him attracted attention. Perhaps the director simply "took a bite" on a beautiful new face, but later it turned out that he was not mistaken. The very first work in the cinema showed that this guy is a real talent, and soon a new star lit up on the Italian cinema screens.

A separate page in the actor's biography was the work with the great Federico Fellini. After the lead role in La Dolce Vita and the golden branch of the Cannes Film Festival, Marcello Mastroianni began to be perceived as a serious actor. He himself talked about working with the famous director as follows:

After the Oscar-winning film "Eight and a Half" and "Marriage in Italian" by Marcello Mastroianni, Soviet spectators also began to go crazy. The fame of the young Italian actor thundered all over the world, fans did not give him a pass, but few people knew that he had been married for a long time. Back in 1950, he met Flora Carabella, an actress and daughter of the very famous composer Ezio Korabella. This woman spent her whole life with him, having endured what, probably, no one can do.

Marcello's love was well known. The popular actor did not miss any of his partners (after all, all of them, as if on selection, were beautiful and famous): Anouk Eme, Ursula Andress, Brigitte Bardot, Jeanne Moreau, Claudia Cardinale, Sophia Loren - this is not a complete list of his stellar victories … The wife, of course, was furious at this turn of events. She arranged violent scenes of jealousy for her husband, and their marriage quickly threatened to fall apart. However, at this moment, Flora listened to the advice of a man who had once discovered her husband's talent. Luchino Visconti said:

There are not many women in the world who are able to accept the infidelity of a loved one, but the wife of one of the most beautiful men on the planet succeeded. She kept the marriage, and then for many years she was forced to listen to stories from Marcello about his adventures. Flora was always aware of who her husband was having another romance with, but at the same time she was sure that she remained his only friend and life companion. Mastroianni often left Rome for shooting, but every evening he called home - he talked with his wife and daughter, for every holiday Flora received from him a huge bouquet of roses. Despite such, even too free conditions, this marriage still found itself on the verge of rupture several times. Marcello had such serious hobbies that he wanted to divorce … but for some reason it did not work out every time.

After a particularly difficult breakup with American actress Faye Dunaway, who called Marcello "a mommy's son, incapable of serious decisions," the 46-year-old actor met on the set with Catherine Deneuve. The French film star was supposed to play the wife of Mastroianni. According to the script of the film "It Only Happens to Others," they were supposed to portray a married couple who lost a child and lived for some time as recluses. Director Nadine Trintignan was so eager for authenticity that she decided to lock the artists together for several days in a half-empty apartment.

The result was, in general, predictable. After such "experiments" you begin to judge the loving actor less. The affair with Katrin became one of the most serious trials in his life. A year after the release of the tape, their daughter was born. Mastroianni was ready this time to leave the family, but Kartinki did not want to associate her life with a fickle and amorous middle-aged actor. Marcello sobbed, talking about this refusal to his legal wife, and said that he would commit suicide, but nothing happened. By the way, the daughter of this beautiful and talented couple also became an actress.

In the last years of his life, there was another woman next to him, film director Anna Maria Tato, but the actor died in 1996 in the arms of Catherine Deneuve and Chiara. He filmed to the last, although at the end of the filming he was taken to the hospital each time (Mastroianni was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer). - the actor shared with reporters, explaining why he does not want to stop working. He called his book of memoirs "Happy Life".
