Air travel is considered one of the safest types of passenger transportation. Every day, more than 80,000 aircraft around the world successfully fly, moving about three million people over great distances. Nevertheless, the history of world aviation has dozens of air crashes. Yes, plane crashes are extremely rare, but the scale of such accidents is fatal. Hundreds of people die in a matter of minutes, and often they have no chance of salvation. Cases when a person survived an airliner crash are rare and cause massive resonance.
Tenerife: the largest plane crash in world history
The largest plane crash in terms of the number of victims occurred on March 27, 1977 on the island of Tenerife. By an absurd accident, two Boeing 747s, the American airline Pan Am and the Dutch KLM, crashed right on the runway of the Los Rodeos airport in Canary. The terrible catastrophe claimed the lives of 583 people. There were far fewer survivors - only 61 passengers on the Pan Am flight, including the captain and co-pilot, as well as the flight engineer.
The main cause of the accident was called bad weather conditions, as a result of which radio communication with the pilots was disrupted. The Boeing command staff could not correctly interpret the instructions of the air traffic controller and practically did not hear each other. The situation was aggravated by heavy fog, which reduced visibility to one hundred meters.
As a result of these absurd accidents, both liners almost simultaneously found themselves on the same runway. Moving towards each other, the pilots did not have the physical ability to assess the full picture of what was happening. The first to take off was the KLM Boeing and only at that moment saw the Pan Am plane moving towards it.
The pilot tried to lift the plane off the ground to prevent a collision, but the distance for maneuver was insufficient. The liners collided head-on at full speed. The force of the impact was so great that the KLM plane made a giant hole in the Pan Am fuselage. After that, he fell onto the runway and caught fire. The fire killed everyone inside. In the second plane, some of the passengers miraculously survived.
Japan: 4 people survived in collision with mountain range
On August 12, 1985, there was a plane crash, in terms of the number of victims slightly inferior to the crash in Tenerife. Boeing of Japan Airlines Japan Airlines departed on its standard route Tokyo-Osaka. 12 minutes after takeoff, serious technical problems appeared, as a result of which the keel was completely detached. The team tried to stabilize the plane for more than half an hour, but their attempts were unsuccessful. The airliner lost control and crashed into a mountain range near Fujiyama.
The disaster took the lives of 520 people. Four passengers survived, and this was perceived as nothing less than a miracle. The Japanese government conducted an official investigation, during which experts established the causes of the plane crash. The tragedy was caused by the negligence of the repair personnel, who made critical mistakes during the planned work.
Sinai Peninsula: Mass Deaths of Russian Citizens in ISIS Terrorist Attack
The largest plane crash in Egypt and Russia was the crash of an Airbus A320 over the Sinai Peninsula on October 31, 2015. 23 minutes after takeoff, the radars stopped recording the charter liner, which was heading to St. Petersburg from Sharm El Sheikh. And shortly thereafter, Egyptian military aircraft discovered its wreckage in the mountains near the city of Nehel. The plane completely collapsed from a collision with the ground, and its parts were scattered over an area of more than 30 km. There were no survivors among 224 people.
In the first days after the incident, the ISIS organization, banned in Russia, claimed responsibility for the events. During the investigation, information about the terrorist attack was confirmed: Airbus A320 crashed due to an improvised explosive device hidden in the tail section. It was hidden there by unknown persons and disguised as a pile of luggage and baby carriages. No suspects in the crime were identified.
Among the passengers were 25 children of different ages, including a girl of 10 months. Later, she became a symbol of the tragedy, and many foreign publications replicated her photograph taken by her parents on the eve of the trip.
France: Ermenonville disaster kills 346 people
The crash of the Turkish aircraft of Turkish Airlines has received worldwide resonance as the "plane crash in Ermenonville." Technological errors in the design of the cargo door led to the death of 346 people.
On March 3, 1974, the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 liner took off from the Paris airport to Istanbul, after which it was supposed to fly to London. However, the tragedy happened within six minutes after being lifted into the air. As soon as the plane reached an altitude of 3500 meters, a breakdown of the locking mechanism in the cargo compartment hatch was discovered. Because of this, it was torn off and an explosive decompression of the cabin began, which disabled all control systems. It was not possible to successfully land the DC-10 in such a situation: just a minute and a half later, it dived at great speed into the forest of Ermenonville and caught fire.
In India, plane collision kills 349 people
On November 12, 1996, an air collision of the Kazakh Il-76TD airliner and the Arab Boeing 747 took place. The disaster cost the lives of all 349 passengers who were inside both aircraft. The incident was recognized as the largest in terms of the number of deaths in collisions in the air.
In this disaster, people did not have a single chance to survive: not recognizing the command of the air traffic controller, the Kazakh Il-76TD sharply lowered the altitude and at a speed of 500 km / h rammed the fuselage of a Boeing 747, which was flying towards it. After the collision, Boeing immediately fell apart while still in the air. Il-76TD survived, but lost control and also crashed to the ground.
One of the reasons for the disaster is not only the crew error, but also the absence of a collision avoidance system on the liners.

Why did the Germans want to kidnap Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill, and why they did not succeed
The plan to kidnap the leaders of the "Big Three" states could be called an adventure, if not for the punctuality and scale with which the Germans were preparing for the operation. One thing the German leaders did not take into account before the "Long Leap" - the activity and awareness of Soviet intelligence, the coherence and scale of their secret, but effective work. Thanks to the timely detention of SS saboteurs and the arrests of German agents, the USSR special services managed to disrupt the operation already at the first stage it was completed
Why do they put a bottle in the coffin, what will happen if you scatter makeup and other signs and superstitions of artists
Representatives of different professions believe in certain signs. Students call for luck at midnight before the exam, But the greatest number of signs exists among representatives of creative professions. Surely this is due to the fact that these people have an incredibly mobile psyche, and it is important for them to receive support from higher powers. Today we want to recall the most incredible superstitions that exist among artists, as well as ask about the personal signs of famous people
Why were they in penal battalions during the Second World War, and How did they survive there?
The attitude to the most controversial historical events in the USSR changed like a pendulum. The topic of penal battalions was initially taboo, it was almost impossible to get accurate information on the number of soldiers in penal battalions. But after the 80s, when the Poyatnik took the opposite position, a lot of materials, articles and documentaries on this topic began to appear, which were also far from the truth. Rightly believing that the truth is somewhere in between, it is worth separating the wheat from the chaff and understanding
Antiheroes and Heroes in Soviet Films: What They Promoted and Why Did They Fall in Love with Them
Cinematography in the USSR was one of the most massive propaganda tools, which had to convey clearly defined ideas to the viewer. For this, characters that would be as understandable as possible were ideally suited. There was no question of any semitones, the main character was utterly positive, and negative, one must assume, was negative in everything. Does this mean that the characters turned out to be flat and "plywood", as required by the state censorship, or, nevertheless, the creative staff managed to breathe x
Noble "nests" of Moscow: Capital estates, which were lucky enough to survive in the vicissitudes of history
Unfortunately, the fate of most of the old estates in Moscow and its environs is very sad - during the revolution and after it, they were destroyed and plundered. But there are those among them that have survived in their original form, thereby preserving the historical memory of their creators and owners. And now these old estates are the real treasures of the metropolitan metropolis, because everything here "breathes" a long history. Let's walk some of them
